THE THOUSAND-MILE WAR

15 April 1943 - 15 June 1943

Nearly a year after their occupation by Japanese
forces at the time of the Battle of Midway, the time
has now come for Allied forces to retake the Aleutian
islands of Attu and Kiska.

Due to the demands of the campaign in the South Pacific,
both sides have very limited resources available, but
are determined to win through all the same. The Japanese
will die before they retreat, and the Americans and
Canadians are determined to eject the enemy from their
bases and open a direct route to attacks on the Home
Islands.

DESIGNER'S NOTES:

By necessity, this scenario has a certain "what-if"
element to it. While the order of battle for both sides
is as accurate as I've been able to make it, the point
of divergence is the fact that the Japanese have decided
on a "stand and die" strategy, where in real life, they
chose to evacuate Kiska Island after the defeat on Attu.

I have deliberately chosen to make the scenario as short
as it is. This is made possible by the fact that the pace
of operations in WitP/AE is much faster than was possible
in real life, so I was hopefully able to cut down some on
the boredom factor.

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS:

You should play this scenario with historical first
turn both "OFF". The Japanese player especially needs to
use his submarines aggressively and since there's no first
turn movement pre-programmed, you'll lose the turn if you
go with historical first turn "ON".
