OVERVIEW: The AN/TPS-1E is a lightweight, portable, medium-range 2-D search radar operating in the NATO "D" band. 

DETAILS: The AN/TPS-1E is a 2-D search and acquisition radar to provide early warning of enemy air attacks. It was intended for medium-range surveillance, as a gap-filler, and for the designation of targets for anti-aircraft units.

NOTES:  The AN/TPS-1 series was developed during World War II to provide early warning of enemy air attacks, and the B and C variants were used during the war. The system breaks down into 10 individual packages for easy delivery to forward areas.  The TPS-1G variant has a  
total weight of only 1,900 pounds. The AN/TPS-1 series was used until the 1990s.
