OVERVIEW: The KOMAR class Guided missile boat is a small, diesel-powered, guided missile boat.

DETAILS: The KOMAR was designed to attack surface targets detected by other units and while under friendly air cover. The lack of crew facilities, equipment and fuel limited these craft from being at sea for more than a day or so. Additionally, the craft are top-heavy, limiting them in bad weather. The SS-N-2 STYX missile carried by the KOMAR was doctrinally limited to being fired below 15kts, as the toxic rocket exhaust could injure the crew.

NOTES: Displacement: 61.5 tons standard
       Speed: 44 knts
       Range: 66 nm @ 32 knts

SOURCES: The Komar was built on the P-6 torpedo boat hull and had an all wood-hull construction. On 21 October 1967 Egyptian Navy Komar class missile boats sank the Israeli destroyer Eilat in the first combat use of P-15 Termit anti-ship missiles. Between 100-175 were constructed.
