OVERVIEW: The AIM-9C Sidewinder is a short-range, supersonic, radar guided  air-to-air missile with a 4.5 kilogram warhead.   

DETAILS:  The AIM-9C  Sidewinder was a varient of the AIM-9 that uses a semi-active conically scanning radar seeker instead of an IR seeker.  Designed to be used by the F8U Crusader, as an expedient to avoid adding a radar to the F-8.
