OVERVIEW: The AGM-62A WALLEYE I is an electo-optical (EO), air-to-surface, glide bomb carrying a 374 kg warhead.

DETAILS: The WALLEYE consists of three main assemblies: a nose section that contains the TV camera, the main body that contains the warhead, and the rear section, containing the datalink antenna and control section.  The controlling aircraft carried a datalink pod. After being dropped, the weapon glides to the target. The AGM-62A was capable of autonomously guiding itself to the target once the gyro-stabilized TV camera was "locked on" to the target, allowing the launch aircraft to depart the area.  Alternatively, the operator could take manual control and guide the weapon, if necessary. The weapon has a CEP of 4.6-6.1 meteres.

NOTES: IOC 1967. The AGM-62 can be carried by the A-4, A-6, A-7, AV-8B and F-4.  Electro-optical sensors such as used on Walleye depend on both light and optical contrast for target searching and identification, limitting their use at night, dawn or dusk and in significantly adverse weather or visual conditions where the line of sight to a target was obscured.
