OVERVIEW: The AGM-65A MAVERICK is a short range, EO guided, rocket powered, air-to-ground missile with a 57 kg shaped charge warhead.

DETAILS: The AGM-65A Maverick is a tactical air-to-surface missile designed to strike a wide range of surface fixed or moving targets. It is a fire and forget weapon. After the missile is activated, the scene viewed by the guidance system appears on a cockpit television screen, allowing the pilot to select the target and launches the missile. After launch, the AGM-65A homes on the target by constantly matching the TV camera image to the locked target image. However, the AGM-65A's small TV image requires an unnecessarily close approach to identify the target.
