OVERVIEW:  The Arrow 2 battery is a road-transportable, short-to-medium range, anti-TBM unit for theater defense against short and medium range ballistic missiles.  

DETAILS:  The Arrow 2  is part of the Arrow modular air defense system, intended to detect, track, and intercepts incoming TBMs over a large footprint, thereby protecting strategic assets and population centers. 

A missile launch platoon consists of the Hazelnut Tree truck-mounted Launch Control Centre (LCC), with four or eight missile launch trailers. Microwave and radio data and voice communications links between the launch centre and the command and control centre allows the launch system to be located up to 300 km from command and control center. The Command and Control center can handle up to 14 simultaneous engagements. Engagements can be fully automatic or with human in the loop.  The system is interoperable with US and Israeli PATRIOT missile defense systems.

A typical engagement begins with the Arrow 2 being cued to a threat by the Green Pine radar. The Arrow missile is launched before the target's trajectory and intercept point are accurately known. As more trajectory data becomes available, the optimum intercept point is more precisely defined and the missile is guided towards the optimum intercept point. Thrust vector control is used in the boost and sustainer phases of flight. The missile can manuver to engage airbreathing targets using four aerodynamically controlled moving fins, guided by an active radar seeker in the Arror missile.   Against high altitude targets, the missile uses a passive IR seeker.  Targets are destroyed using a focused fragmentation warhead with a kill radius of approximately 50 meters.
