OVERVIEW:  The SA-17 GRIZZLY (9K317M1-2 Buk-M1-2) Platoon is a mobile, low-to-high altitude, medium range surface-to-air air defense unit.

DETAILS: The SA-17 GRIZZLY is primarily intended to protect front line-armor and mechanized divisions against aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles and PGMs.  It also has an anti-ground capability. 

The SA-17 is able to conduct operations either independently or as part of a larger AD unit. The SA-17 Grizzly 9A317 TELAR is equipped with the 9S36 passive phased array engagement radar, which provides the capability to concurrently track up to 10 targets and engage 4.
