OVERVIEW: YLC-8B is a long-range, 3D, road mobile, active phased array, early warning radar optimized for stealth targets and capable of tracking aircraft and ballistic missiles. It operates in the B or C (NATO) UHF (IEEE) Band.

DETAILS: The YLC-8B has a similar mission as the JY-27A. Both are long-range active phased array early warning radars with anti-stealth capabilities, but they work in different wavebands. As such, they are most effective when deployed together as part of an IADS system.

The YLC-8B uses full coherent digital pulse compression and moving target detection technology. The radar can detect and track aircraft that are over 500 km away as well as missile threats out to ranges of over 700 km.

The YLC-8B ais claimed to be capable of detecting and tracking stealth aircraft such as the F-22. If true, then it is likely that one mission of the radar would be to direct stealth fighters to intercept enemy stealth targets.
