OVERVIEW: The HAROP UAV battery is a mobile surface-to-surface UCAV launch system utilizing the HAROP anti-radiation loitering munition (LM).

DETAILS: The HAROP is a small radar-signature LM, designed to target enemy air-defense systems in a first line of attack, as well as providing a persistent threat/quick reaction capability against enemy targets.

The HAROP LMs is launched from a ground-based launcher and controlled via a two-way data link providing full man-in-the-loop operation. Alternatively, the HAROP can attack use its anti-radar homing system to conduct autonomous attacks. The HAROP LMs are programmed before launch by the ground control station (GCS) to autonomously fly to a pre-defined “Holding Area” to loiter. A master control station (MCS) can control multiple HAROP LMs in the holding area, selecting individual LMs for target search and attack. Once selected for a mission, the MCS directs the selected HAROP to the target area, using the video image for target selection and attack. The HAROP tracks the target conducting a terminal dive onto the target and destroying it with an impact-fuzed warhead. If under human control, the attack can be aborted allowing for re-attack with the same LM. If a target is not engaged, the LM will return and land itself back at base. The HAROP's FLIR system gives it a surveillance and BDA capability.

NOTES: IOC: 2005. The Harop missiles can be launched from various transportable platforms including sea and ground based canisters or air launched. Used by Azerbaijan; China; India; Israel; Kazakhstan; South Korea; Turkey; Uzbekistan
