OVERVIEW:  The Arrow 3 battery is a road-transportable, long range, ATBM unit for theater defense against ballistic missiles.  

DETAILS:  The Arrow 3 interceptor is part of the Arrow Weapon System (AWS), a stand-alone ATBM (Anti Tactical Ballistic Missiles) defense system. The Arrow modular air defense system detects, tracks, intercepts and destroys incoming TBMs carrying a range of warheads and over a large footprint, thereby protecting strategic assets and population centers. The Arrow 3's exo-atmospheric interceptor provides the upper-tier part of the layered Arrow 3/Arrow 2/Patriot ATBM system.  This layered defense system, combined with the short time-of-flight provides multiple interception opportunities over a wide spatial area, resulting in near zero-leakage-rate for the AWS system.  Additionally, the Arrow 3's high altitude interception capability minimizes collateral damage on the ground from successful interception of WMD-equipped targets.  

An Arrow 3 battery is expected to intercept salvos of more than five ballistic missiles within 30 seconds. Arrow 3 can be launched into an area of space before it is known where the target missile is going. When the target and its course are identified, the Arrow interceptor is redirected using its thrust-vectoring nozzle to close the gap and conduct a "body-to-body" interception.

The Arrow 3 uses the same Hazelnut Tree truck-mounted Launch Control Centre (LCC), as used by the Arrow 2. Microwave and radio data and voice communications links between the launch center and the command and control center allows the launch system to be located up to 300 km from command and control center. The Command and Control center can handle up to 14 simultaneous engagements. Engagements can be fully automatic or with human in the loop.  The system is interoperable with US and Israeli PATRIOT missile defense systems
