OVERVIEW: The YJ-12 battalion is an mobile, ground-launched, long-range, high-supersonic, liquid-fuel, ramjet-powered, coastal defense system radar 200 kg HE warhead.

DETAILS: The YJ-12 ASCM battalion uses the YJ-12B missile, a ground-launched version of the naval YJ-12 anti-ship missile carried by warships.

After launch, the missile accelerates to a speed of Mach 3+, first climbing to a high altitude for the cruise phase before diving to a sea-skimming level at terminal stage. During the cruise phase it uses inertial and GPS guidance. At an unknown distance to the target, the missile descends to approximately 15 meters and activates its radar for terminal phase guidance. The missile is capable of performing air-borne evasive maneuvers before hitting its target.
