OVERVIEW: The HEGU (Type 024) class Guided missile boat is a small, 4-shaft, diesel-powered, guided missile boat.

DETAILS: The HEGU is derived from the USSR's KOMAR class, replacing its wooden hull with steel. It was designed to attack surface targets detected by other units and while under friendly air cover. The lack of crew facilities, equipment and fuel limited these craft from being at sea for more than a day or so. Additionally, the craft are top-heavy, limiting them in bad weather. The SS-N-2 STYX missile carried by the KOMAR was doctrinally limited to being fired below 15kts, as the toxic rocket exhaust could injure the crew.
