OVERVIEW: The Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) is a diesel-powered patrol vessel intended to conduct armed seaborne surveillance and sovereignty operations in the Canadian EEZ, primarily in the Artic regions. These vessels have secondary missions of international LEO, anti-piracy, stability, and humanitarian assistance missions.

DETAILS: The Harry DeWolf (AOPV 430)-class vessel are designed to meet Polar Class (PC) 5+ requirements so they are capable of year-round operation in medium first-year ice.  The DeWolf-class is capable of penetrate ice up to 1m thick, and operate  in Sea State 4.  

Aviation facilities include a flight deck, capable of operating medium-sized CH-148 Cyclone or CH-149 Cormorant helicopters.  It can also operate UAVs.

The vessels can carry two 8.5m-long multi-purpose +35 knt rescue boats for rescue, personnel transfer and boarding missions.  Additionally, two 12m RCMP/JTF2/Navy mission-fit boarding/assault boats and one 12 meter landing craft can be carried. 

The vessel has a vehicle bay capable of holding pick-up trucks, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and snowmobiles. Up to 6 containers can be stored on deck. Cargo handling facilities include a 20-ton crane.

The ships are lightly armed with an armament of 1x 25/75 BAE Mk 38, and 2x 12.7/90.
