OVERVIEW: The BRISTOL class (Type 82) is a COSAG-powered guided missile destroyer (DDG).

DETAILS:   The BRISTOL class DDG used a combined steam and gas (COSAG) to power its two shafts. The BRISTOL class was designed around the Sea Dart anti-aircraft missile system.

       Speed: 30 knts
       Engineering: 2 shaft, 2 steam engines, 2 gas turbines
       Range: 5,000 nm @ 18 knts
       Complement: 397 
       In Commission: 1973-1987 (post-1987 in commission as a training vessel).
       Completed: 1

NOTES: Units in class: BRISTOL (D 23).  The remainder of the class were canceled due to high cost and cancelation of the aircraft carrier they were intended to escort.  HMS BRISTOL was fitted with flagship facilities in 1979.
