OVERVIEW: The SWIFTSURE is a nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN).

DETAILS: The SWIFTSURE class used for ASW screening role for task forces, and in the independent anti-ship and ASW roles because of their quieter machinery. They were the first class of Royal Navy submarines to be built with shrouded pump-jet propulsors, with all hulls except the SWIFTSURE equipped with this system. This system was more efficient than traditional screws, producing the same speed at lower revolutions, thereby reducing the noise signature.
