OVERVIEW: The Durandal (BLU-107/B) is an unguided, anti-runway dibber bomb with a dual 100 kg and 15 kilogram HE warheads.   

DETAILS:  The Durandal bomb is intended for use as an airfield denial weapon.  It consists for four main subassemblies: A warhead, ignition system, solid-fueled rocket and parachute sections. After bomb release, braking and main parachutes are deployed to slow the weapon down to 25 m/s.  When the bomb reaches an angle of 30 degrees, the parachute is jettisoned, and the 92.4kN rocket motor fires, accelerating the weapon to 250m/sec to penetrate runway surface.  On impact, the 100 kg main charge explodes to increase penetration.  After penetration, the secondary charge explodes after a pre-flight selectable delay of between 1 second and several hours.  The bomb crates a 5-meter diameter, 2-3 meter deep crater on a runway surface, with additional 150-250 square meter area around the blast site where the surface is raised and cracked.

NOTES: Production of the Durandal began in 1977. The Durandal is also suitable for employment against any concrete-hardened target
(semi-hardened aircraft shelters, blockhouses, harbor facilities, etc). The USAF tested the system from 1982-87, giving it the designator BLU-107/B. US procurement ended in 1987. Nineteen nations, including Turkey, Italy have had the weapon in inventory. A Chinese version, designated the Type 200/200A was possibly developed from the Durandal. It can be carried on most aircraft capable of using NATO-standard munitions.
