OVERVIEW: The CY-1 ASROC is a surface-launched, unguided, solid-fuel rocket-delivered ASW torpedo.

DETAILS: The CY-1 is similar in concept to the USN ASROC system, and is intended to give a surface ship an extended range or stand-off attack capability against a submarine. Initial targeting is provided either by the firing ship's organic sonars, or by another ship or helo using a datalink. After the target is localized and targeted, the CY-1 is fired down the target bearing. When near the targeted splash down point, the torpedo is released. After water entry, the torpedo initiates the standard search pattern for the target
