OVERVIEW: The YJ-12 is an surface-launched, long-range, high-supersonic, liquid-fuel, ramjet-powered, multi-stage, active radar anti-ship missile (ASM). It carries a 250-500 kg HE warhead.

DETAILS: After launch, the missile accelerates to a speed of Mach 3+, first climbing to a high altitude for the cruise phase before diving to a sea-skimming level at terminal stage. During the cruise phase it uses inertial and GPS guidance. At an unknown distance to the target, the missile descends to approximately 15 meters and activates its radar for terminal phase guidance. The missile is capable of performing air-borne evasive maneuvers before hitting its target.
