OVERVIEW: The AN/ALQ-184(V)5 is an external mounted, noise/deception electronic countermeasures (ECM) pod.

DETAILS: The ALQ-184(V)5 is an ALQ-119(V) modified with a kit that installs new plug-in circuit boards to replace much of the analog hardware for the upper two frequency bands. Like the ALQ-184(V), it provides an electrically scannable antenna to replace the ALQ-119's fixed antennas. It can operate in either two or three bands between 2-10 GHz. Its Effective Radiated Power (ERP) output is over 10 dB greater than the earlier AN/ALQ-119. This greater ERP and the steerable antennas allow the focusing of radiated energy, increasing jamming efficiency. The ALQ-184(V)5 provides a 100 percent probability of detection of CW, pulse and pulse Doppler signals. Improvements over the ALQ-184(V) include a flight line reprogrammability capablity and the addition of a modulation jamming capablity. It also features a towed decoy capability.

NOTES: The AN/ALQ-184(V)5 is used by A-10A, F-15B/D and F-16A/B, as well as the F-4G.
