OVERVIEW: The AS.34 Komoran 1 is an air-launched, short-range, solid fuel, radar homing, sea-skimming anti-ship missile with a secondary land-attack capability.  

DETAILS:  The Kormoran was designed specifically for launch by low flying aircraft using pop up tactics. The missile has three firing modes: Silent/Missile Acquisition, Radar and Visual. After launch and completion of the boost phase, the AS.34 Komoran 2 descends to a cruise altitude of 20-30 meters, using an inertial guidance system for the midcourse phase. When within line-of-sight of the target, the missile begins scanning for target emissions.  If signals are picked up, the homing head locks on to the emitter and the missile operates in a passive homing mode until 15-20 seconds prior to impact in order to evade detection and limit reaction time If no signals are detected, the enters active radar homing mode. After locking on to a target, the missile descends to its final sea-skimming flight level to hit the target just above the water line. It carries a 56 kg delay-fused warhead, designed for 90mm of penetration prior to detonation.
