OVERVIEW: The AN/ASQ-173 Laser Spot Tracker/Strike CAMera (LST/SCAM) is an airborne targeting sight designed to identify laser-designated targets.

DETAILS: The AN/ASQ-173 consists of a stabilized LST that detects a target designated by a ground or air based laser and allows target acquisition with a minimum communication between the aircraft and forward air controllers. A gimbaled 35mm cameral located on the aft end of the pod allows for photography of the target prior and post- attack, allowing for BDA without requiring a separate dedicated aircraft.

NOTES: Used by USN F/A-18.
