OVERVIEW:  The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile is a single stage, solid fuel, long-range, high altitude, command guided ABM missile.  It uses a hit-to-kill (HTK) kinetic warhead utilizing a liquid-fueled thrust vectoring engine and an IIR sensor for terminal phase homing maneuvers. 

DETAILS: Before launch, the C-2 missile receives a calculated interception point from the battery CP.  After launch, the missile receives in-flight updates via uplinks.  In the terminal phase, the hit-to-kill (HTK) vehicle separates from the missile and uses a liquid-fueled thrust vectoring engine and an IIR sensor for terminal phase homing maneuvers.
