OVERVIEW: A French air-dropped anti-runway munition designed to disable enemy airfields by cratering runways and impeding aircraft operations. The BAP.100 is a parachute-retarded submunition delivered in clusters, optimized for rapid deployment against hardened surfaces.

DETAIL: The BAP.100 (Bombe Anti-Piste) was developed by Matra in the late 1970s as a precision submunition capable of damaging or destroying runways with concentrated explosive force. Each dispenser holds 18 cylindrical submunitions, which deploy parachutes to slow descent and allow vertical impact. Upon contact, a shaped charge creates a deep crater followed by a secondary charge that undercuts the surrounding concrete, increasing the time and effort required for repair. The BAP.100’s focused design minimizes collateral damage and maximizes surface disruption.

Variants finalized in the early 1980s, saw integration with tactical strike aircraft such as the SEPECAT Jaguar and Mirage series. It introduced improved fuzing and stabilization, ensuring high hit probability and synchronized release over linear targets. The system was configured for low-altitude, high-speed delivery, enhancing survivability of launch platforms.

Operational use centers on pre-emptive or early-phase attacks against enemy airbases. Pilots release the munition in a programmed pattern to maximize coverage. The bomb is designed to disable takeoff and landing strips quickly, complicating adversary air operations during the opening hours of conflict.
