OVERVIEW: The Type 200-4 is a Chinese air-dropped anti-runway bomb designed to disable enemy airfield infrastructure. It is a reverse-engineered copy of the French Matra Durandal, optimized for low-altitude, high-speed delivery by tactical aircraft.

DETAIL: The Type 200-4 is equipped with a two-stage warhead and a delay fuze system designed to penetrate runway surfaces before detonation. Upon release, a braking parachute slows the bomb, then a solid rocket motor activates to drive the bomb into the concrete at an oblique angle. The warhead then detonates underneath the surface, creating a crater and heaving slabs of concrete to make repairs time-consuming and resource-intensive.

This munition is designed to be deployed from low altitude to minimize exposure of the launch aircraft to enemy air defenses. Its shape, penetration mechanics, and function closely mirror those of the French BLU-107 Durandal, though adapted for local manufacturing and use with Chinese aircraft systems.

The Type 200-4 is typically integrated with multirole and strike aircraft in the Chinese inventory. It is employed to incapacitate enemy airbases ahead of offensive air operations, limiting enemy sortie generation and delaying runway restoration efforts.
