OVERVIEW: The BRP-250 LDGP is a 250 kg low-drag general-purpose bomb fitted with a parachute retardation system. Designed for low-altitude delivery, it provides enhanced safety for the delivery aircraft by reducing the bomb's fall speed, allowing the aircraft to exit the blast area.

DETAIL: Developed in Spain and manufactured by Expal (now Rheinmetall Expal Munitions), the BRP-250 is a derivative of the BR-250, incorporating a parachute assembly for retardation. This addition permits safe low-level release without compromising blast effectiveness. It retains the high-explosive warhead and streamlined steel casing of the base model, with minor modifications for parachute integration. The bomb supports NATO-standard fuzing systems and remains compatible with various delivery platforms.

Argentina employed the BRP-250 during the 1982 Falklands War, particularly in low-altitude attack profiles to reduce exposure to enemy air defenses. It proved useful for strikes on lightly defended targets, airstrips, and forward positions. Its simplicity and reliability ensure continued use for training and contingency roles.

The BRP-250 is typically deployed by aircraft performing tactical strike missions at low altitudes. The parachute system slows descent, ensuring safe separation before detonation. It is used in direct attacks on airfields, convoys, or infrastructure, especially when terrain or enemy air defense demands low-level ingress.
