OVERVIEW: A modern U.S. Air Force air-dropped fragmentation bomb optimized for enhanced anti-personnel effects. The BLU-134/B "Superfrag" is designed to maximize blast fragmentation radius and lethality in open and semi-covered terrain.

DETAIL: The BLU-134/B was developed under the U.S. Air Force's Enhanced Effects Munition (EEM) program to provide a 500 lb class bomb with significantly greater fragmentation lethality than standard Mk 82-based munitions. Its steel casing is engineered with preformed fragments to increase the number and uniformity of lethal fragments upon detonation. The bomb body is designed for efficient aerodynamic delivery and compatibility with a range of USAF fuzes and tail kits.

Unlike standard general-purpose bombs, the BLU-134 focuses on maximizing anti-personnel and anti-material effects in environments with soft targets. The internal fragmentation matrix and optimized explosive fill improve lethality without increasing collateral blast damage. It can be paired with laser or GPS guidance systems such as Paveway or JDAM kits. Its form factor is compatible with existing 500 lb bomb racks, ensuring operational flexibility across USAF and allied platforms.

This weapon is intended to replace or supplement general-purpose bombs in scenarios requiring higher anti-personnel effectiveness, such as airfield suppression, convoy interdiction, or troop concentration strikes. Typical delivery involves low to medium altitude drops using precision guidance to limit unintended damage. It has seen testing and integration on tactical aircraft like the F-15E, F-16, and B-52H.
