OVERVIEW: The M/70 is an unguided, air-to-surface high-explosive rocket developed by Sweden for strike missions against soft and lightly-armored ground targets, and is compatible with multiple Swedish fast jet platforms via external rocket pods.

DETAILS: The M/70 (Model 1970) is a fin-stabilized, unguided rocket designed for air-to-ground attack missions. It uses a solid-fuel motor and is launched from multi-tube pods such as the AKAN m-70. The rocket carries a high-explosive fragmentation warhead optimized for anti-personnel, soft-skinned vehicles, and light infrastructure targets. It is typically fired in salvos for area saturation and rapid effect.

This specific variant is tailored for aircraft deployment, using aircraft-mounted launch pods with electrical firing systems linked to the cockpit interface. It was integrated with Sweden’s tactical airpower strategy, particularly within the Flygvapnet's doctrine of fast low-level strike missions. The M/70 was routinely carried by Swedish combat aircraft throughout the Cold War and beyond.

The rocket is deployed by programming release profiles into the aircraft's weapon system and selecting ripple or salvo firing modes. Pilots aim using HUD symbology or CCIP modes when available. Once launched, the rocket follows a ballistic path with no in-flight correction.
