OVERVIEW: DAGAIE Mk 1 LIR is a ship-launched, expendable infrared decoy designed for seduction of IR-guided anti-ship missiles. It is launched from 115 mm deck-mounted launchers to deploy high-intensity flares creating false heat signatures to mislead incoming threats.

DETAILS: DAGAIE (Défense Anti‑Guidage Avancée des Intercepteurs Embarqués) is developed by Lacroix in collaboration with France’s DGA and CSEE. The Mk 1 LIR (Leurre InfraRouge / Infrared Decoy) utilizes infrared-emitting pyrotechnic flares engineered to burn in both 3–5 µm and 8–14 µm bands, matching the spectral windows of common missile seekers. These flares are stored in multi-barrel 115 mm launchers and can be fired in seduction mode — timed to deploy precisely when missiles enter terminal phase acquisition.

FUNCTION:
It is launched from ship-mounted 115 mm DAGAIE cartridge launchers.
Once deployed, it releases infrared flares burning in the 3–5 µm and 8–14 µm bands.
This produces deceptive heat signatures that seduce missile seekers into locking onto the flare rather than the ship.

Platforms: Installed mainly on French Navy frigates and aircraft carriers equipped with DAGAIE systems.
