OVERVIEW: GEMINI is an unguided, ship‑launched, dual‑mode expendable decoy round designed for simultaneous radar-and-infrared threat seduction. It deploys both chaff and flare payloads to protect vessels against radar-guided and IR-guided missiles.

DETAILS: Developed by Loral Hycor, GEMINI is a 112 mm hybrid decoy cartridge deployed from standard shipboard mortar launchers . The lower section of the round carries radar‑reflective chaff, while the upper comprises an infrared flare payload with ignition and parachute mechanisms to sustain IR signature. Within seconds of launch, it produces a large radar cross-section and a persistent heat source, providing dual-spectrum distraction for small vessel self-protection.

FUNCTION:
It is launched from standard shipboard mortar dispensers.
Once deployed, it ejects radar-reflective chaff followed by an IR flare under parachute descent.
This creates simultaneous false radar and heat signatures, seducing missile seekers away from the ship.
