OVERVIEW: The CANTO-V is an active, expendable naval torpedo decoy designed to defeat modern acoustic-homing torpedoes. It emits high-intensity acoustic signals across 360° to overload the torpedo’s processing and mislead it away from the ship or submarine.

DETAILS: CANTO-V is a product of the CONTRALTO-V system developed by Naval Group, designed to protect both surface vessels and submarines from advanced acoustic torpedoes. It operates on a dilution/confusion principle, generating hundreds of false acoustic targets by emitting wideband signals and saturation noise patterns. The decoy functions independently of the torpedo’s operating mode and does not require threat classification before deployment, making it effective against multiple simultaneous attacks in various environments.

– CANTO-V’s Function:
It is launched from a ship or submarine using a dedicated mortar, rocket, or pneumatic decoy launcher.
Once deployed, it emits high-powered, broadband acoustic signals in all directions.
This creates dense false acoustic targets that confuse and draw torpedoes away from the platform.
