OVERVIEW: Kavach is an unguided, ship-launched, expendable chaff rocket system developed by India’s Ordnance Factory Board. It deploys radar-reflective chaff clouds to distract and seduce incoming radar-guided missiles away from naval vessels.

DETAILS: Kavach rockets use silver-coated glass-fiber chaff and come in three versions by range: Short Range (~1 km), Medium Range (~5 km), and Long Range (~12 km), fired according to threat proximity (confusion, distraction, and centroid/seduction modes). Developed for self-reliant naval defense after Soviet imports ceased, production began in 2012 with over 4,000 rounds delivered. The system integrates a launcher (LRMR and SR variants) configured in 4×4 tubes, mounted on destroyers, corvettes, and tankers, with full-traverse capability (~180°/s).

FUNCTION:
It is launched from rotating, deck‑mounted 4×4 tube launcher systems.
Once deployed, a selected-range chaff rocket disperses a silver‑coated glass‑fiber cloud at programmed distance and height.
This produces a radar-reflective cloud that seduces or distracts missile seekers, protecting the ship.
