OVERVIEW: The Boeing 707 EL/L-8300, also designated EC-707 "Chasidah," is an Israeli airborne SIGINT/ELINT aircraft developed from the Boeing 707-300 platform. It entered service in 1982 to provide long-range strategic intelligence collection and electronic surveillance for the Israeli Air Force.

DETAILS: The EL/L-8300 was developed by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and Elta Systems to provide Israel with autonomous airborne signals intelligence capability during regional conflicts. The aircraft is based on the Boeing 707-300 airframe and configured with extensive ELINT and COMINT systems to intercept, analyze, and monitor enemy radar and communication signals. It is equipped with Elta's advanced electronic reconnaissance suites mounted in various fuselage and dorsal fairings. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines, the EC-707 has a cruising speed of Mach 0.80 and a range exceeding 9,000 km. It performs high-endurance, wide-area surveillance missions for strategic intelligence support, threat analysis, and pre-strike electronic mapping.

The EL/L-8300 system includes a full-spectrum receiver suite capable of detecting low-probability-of-intercept (LPI) emissions, direction finding systems, and onboard analysis workstations. The Chasidah variant featured mission-specific upgrades including multi-operator consoles, fuselage modifications, and specialized antennas along the fuselage spine and wingtips.

TYPE: SIGINT/ELINT Reconnaissance Aircraft

FUNCTION: Used for strategic collection and analysis of adversary radar and communications networks across wide operational areas. Its range, onboard processing, and national control made it ideal for early warning, target development, and support of air and ground operations.
