OVERVIEW: The Il-22PP Porubshchik is a strategic ELINT and electronic warfare aircraft derived from the Il-22M platform. It was developed to perform radar signal interception and active jamming against enemy air defense and surveillance systems.

DETAILS: The Il-22PP was introduced by the Russian Aerospace Forces following a modernization program initiated in the late 2000s, with operational service beginning around 2014. It is powered by four Ivchenko AI-20M turboprop engines, has a cruise speed of approximately 550 km/h (Mach ~0.45), a service ceiling of 6,500 meters, and a maximum range of around 6,500 kilometers. The aircraft features prominent conformal fuselage antenna pods, a tail-mounted mast antenna, and underbelly jamming systems. It is configured with passive ELINT equipment for emitter detection and classification, combined with active jamming systems for suppression of enemy radar and communication systems.

The designation “Il-22PP” identifies it as the electronic warfare variant of the Il-22; “PP” refers to "Postanovshchik Pomekh" (jammer). The Porubshchik configuration integrates automated threat identification, jamming control interfaces, and decoy dispensers (UV-26M), enabling it to disrupt surveillance radars, airborne warning systems, and battlefield communications without interfering with friendly forces.

TYPE: Strategic ELINT and Electronic Warfare Aircraft

FUNCTION: Used to detect and analyze radar emissions and to jam adversary surveillance and air defense networks. It provides stand-off suppression of enemy electronic systems in support of Russian aerospace and ground operations.
