OVERVIEW: The Su-24MP Fencer F is a tactical electronic warfare and ELINT aircraft developed by the Soviet Union for Frontal Aviation (VVS). It was introduced in 1990 to support suppression of enemy air defenses and conduct radar signal intelligence.

DETAILS: Based on the Su-24M strike variant, the Su-24MP replaced the bombing avionics with a dedicated EW and ELINT suite known as Landysh. It is powered by two Lyulka AL-21F-3A turbofan engines, has a top speed of Mach 1.35, and operates with a combat radius of approximately 600 km. It features a distinctive rectangular nose fairing, additional dielectric panels, and external ECM pods; onboard systems include passive emitter receivers, signal geolocation tools, and jamming equipment. Only about ten aircraft were produced and deployed with Frontal Aviation units shortly before the collapse of the USSR.

The “MP” designation stands for Modifikatsirovannyy Postanovshchik Pomekh, meaning "Modified Jammer". The Su-24MP lacked ground-attack capabilities and was focused entirely on radar signal interception and active jamming. It retained self-defense armament including an internal GSh-6-23 cannon and short-range R-60 missiles.

TYPE: Tactical ELINT/EW Aircraft

FUNCTION: Provides standoff detection and jamming of enemy radar systems to degrade air defense networks and protect strike aircraft. Its systems were optimized for electronic reconnaissance in support of front-line Soviet air operations.

NOTE:
IOC: 1983 (prototype), 1990 (operational entry into Frontal Aviation)
