OVERVIEW: The Bombardier Global 5000 operated by India is a long-range, high-speed business jet modified for electronic intelligence (ELINT) and signals intelligence (SIGINT) roles. Entering service in 2015, it forms the airborne platform for India’s DRDO-developed Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (AISR) system.

DETAILS: The Indian Air Force acquired several Bombardier Global 5000 jets and modified them for special mission use under a program led by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). These aircraft are outfitted with indigenous SIGINT and COMINT payloads developed by DRDO's Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), making them capable of intercepting, identifying, and analyzing a wide range of radar and communication emissions. The platform is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710A2-20 turbofan engines, has a maximum speed of Mach 0.89, and a range of approximately 9,630 km. Its compact size and long endurance allow discreet high-altitude surveillance over extended areas with advanced onboard signal processing systems.

These aircraft form part of India’s expanded electronic warfare and airborne intelligence capability alongside larger platforms. The variant integrates sensors, antenna arrays, and analysis consoles into the Global 5000 airframe, providing theater-wide electromagnetic surveillance.

TYPE: SIGINT/ELINT Reconnaissance Aircraft

FUNCTION: Provides airborne detection and analysis of enemy radar and communication systems to support strategic situational awareness, electronic order of battle development, and targeting. It is optimized for persistent surveillance missions across contested and border regions.
