July, 1938 finds Republican Spain struggling for survival. In an attempt to draw Nationalist
forces away from other sectors, a daring attack across the Ebro River is devised.**

At 0100 hours 25 July, 1938 the Republic prepares to cross the Ebro river to begin a new offensive.
The first units across the river were Scouts accompanied by local guerrilla forces and "Paco"
engineer units. Their task was to invest improved observation posts and bunkers prior to
the battalions crossing the river. These incursions were taking place along a 50km length
of the Ebro river. This scenario is "generic" and attempts to illustrate one of many such
battles that night.**

Get across the river with your scout/guerrilla forces. Your troops are equipped with rubber
rafts. Beware of the bridge - it will be defended. The Pacos will appear at about turn
four and assist in assaulting the bunkers near the bridge. Be careful. There are enemy roving
patrols up and down the river.**

NOTE: The human player must play the Republican side. Troops have been assigned objectives for
those who wish to play with Command Control turned on.**

After the battle: The Republicans were able to get across the Ebro because the conventional
wisdom was that a swift-running river such as the Ebro, could not be crossed in force.
Before the Nationalists had recovered from their surprise, a bridgehead 25 kilometers deep
by 50 kilometers in length had been established. Many Nationalist troops had to be rapidly
transferred away from other fronts to meet this threat.*
