________Bloody Tarawa*
_USMC Assault on Tarawa Atoll*
_____November 20th 1943*
________19 Turns*
**

The 2nd Marines are going ashore in the first trial of the new allied strategy of "Island Hopping".
**

This scenario covers the initial landings on beaches Red 1 and Red 2. The Marines objective is not to take the whole island, but rather to establish beachheads and push inland far enough to allow re-inforcements to land without encountering heavy resistance.*
A small hint: You will need to use your naval support wisely. Rush in and you may get mauled bad!

**

The Japanese have not been idle during their time on Tarawa. They have built up impressive defenses designed to stop the enemy on the beaches. There are offshore obstacles, wire and mines all placed to create killing zones.

**

Historical Notes: The 2nd Marines learned a lot of lessons on Tarawa, all paid for with the blood of their comrades. By the end of the first day most of the Marines had made only small gains outside of the beach-heads. Hopefully this scenario will help eveyone understand just what a brawl Tarawa was and why it was there-after referred to as "Bloody Tarawa".
