1796 Grand Campaign Notes

OVERVIEW

This "Grand Campaign" runs from March 1796 through the end of the Napoleonic wars. All the Generals from 1796 through 1815
are modded into the Campaign, entering at appropriate times. MANY Generals - including much of France's famed Marshalate
(Davout, Ney, Murat, Bernadotte, etc) begin the Campaign before they received their Marshal's Batons, as 1-Star Generals.
It's up the the player to increase their Fame through battles and assure they promote to their historical rank
(or maybe even further). I relied on my own knowledge of the period, as well as numerous independent resources to confirm
dates and other data points for Generals and ranks.

The notes below indicate changes made to the scenario files that players should be aware of. None of the changes are "major"
changes. Most are made for period color, and to connect the time-frames into one Grand Campaign.

GAME SETTINGS:

Glory Setting should be "Highest Glory"
Game Length should be "20 Years"
All other settings optional to player preference

GENERALS

Napoleon
Napoleon begins the 1796 Grand Campaign as "Bonaparte". He is a 3-star General, and will promote (assuming he doesn't die)
to a 4-star when he earns 200 or more additional Fame. Though he begins as a 3-star, he has his higher 4-star stats and special
abilities, since they cannot be removed and then later added (modded) after he promotes to 4-Star. I suggest he be renamed
"Napoleon" after he promotes, of course.

Skjoldebrand
Swedish General Skjoldebrand (1-Star) is added to replace General Stedingk, who in this scenario is a Swedish Diplomat.
NOTE: The name "Skjoldebrand" is also in the random names file for Swedish Generals. If a random General with this
name is created, assume he's a long-lost cousin of the one added ;-) (or if you are so inclined, you can remove/replace
the name in the CmdName3.txt file in the Data folder).

Suvorov
The old, great Russian General Suvorov is not included. He was exiled from 1796-98 and only saw action in
Italy in the 1799 campaign, then returned to Russia and died a few months later. Since there's no mechanism to remove
him from the game if the AI is playing Russia - and since he'd be over 80 yrs old by scenario's end - AND because he's
the 2nd most powerful General in the game and could affect play-balance - I opted to leave him out. His stats are available
in the standard 1796 scenario if you want to place him in this campaign.

In some compensation for the loss of Suvorov, I have placed General Bagration available beginning 1799 (1-star). He wasn't
technically a Divisional General as yet, but his impact during the Italian Campaign under Suvorov is worthy of his inclusion.

There are two "Godoy"s in the Spanish 1796 OOB - a Diplomat and General. This will be corrected in a future patch, but for now
just assume they are cousins (or something).

New Generals -

Uvarov
A Russian Cavalry Commander of some note, with decisive action at the Battle of Heilsberg in a large Cavalry battle against
Murat. Enters the Campaign in March 1807.

Murad Bey
A Turkish Cavalry commander who fought against Napoleon at the Battle of the Pyramids in Egypt, 1798. He begins the game
deployed with the Egyptian Forces. He died of the plague in 1801, but maybe he'll have better luck in this campaign ;-)

La Pena
Spanish General present in the American Revolutionary wars, he is still present (and not too old) to appear here, called
to active duty in 1797 (Spain needs a 3rd General badly, as most replacements appear 10-12 years into the campaign).

SCENARIO FILES

File Changes -

Provinces.txt
Added almost continuous heavy snow in winter months in the Gulf of Bothnia and Gulf of Finland, to help reflect the fact that
these areas were mostly iced-in during winter months. Also added a slightly higher chance of heavy snow in Eastern
Prussia (Mosovia, Warsaw, East Prussia) and Switzerland.

targets.txt
Added more French interest in northern Italy. France has the opportunity for 4 more Glory points per turn for possessing
Bern (Switzerland) (2), Piedmont (1), and Lombardy (1). However, if any of these Provinces are controlled by enemy Nations,
they will lose -1 Glory per turn, per Province. All other French Glory targets remain the same.
No other Glory target changes were made.

players.txt
File modded to allow for more promotions.
France, for example, has been increased from a maximum of 8 2-stars, to 14. At the start of this scenario most
of France's reknowned Marshalate (Davout, Ney, Murat, etc) are 1-Stars, yet to receive their Marshal's Batons, so they need
"room" to promote.

All nations received an increase in room for promotions, while remaining proportionate to their relative military size.

Reduced the at-start experience points available for each Nation, by 50% (both Army and Naval) to reflect the earlier
time period, and slightly slow the rate of Upgrade acquisition (you'll still be way ahead by 1805).

One Upgrade mod - France first used the Levee en Masse in 1793, so this Upgrade was added for France.

start.txt
The 2 Austrian Corps are removed from at-start. Austria had no "Corps" as defined in the game, in 1796. The units in those Corps
have been moved into the Armies the Corps were attached to originally. Note that this leaves 1 Austrian Heavy Cavalry unit
"detached" from its Army. I play-tested this and found no change in game-balance.

French Med. Combat fleet is moved from Provence to Languedoc (adjacent). The reason for this: on occasion, AI France will opt
for a Naval strategy, and when it does, it loads up Napoleon and the Army of Italy and invades Islands in the Med - where it
then becomes trapped for the rest of the campaign. Moving the Navy out of Provence fixed the problem. Longer-term, there's
dev discussion about improving the way the AI handles Naval invasions. For now this will have to do.

Added the name "Garde Kavallerie" to a Heavy Cavalry unit in the Prussian Army. Purely for historical color, note that this
unit is NOT an actual "Guard" unit, with Guard special abilities. But the unit is accurate.

Barracks Infrastructure - I modded the Barracks levels at-start for each Nation, to reflect that this campaign begins 10 years
prior to 1805, and some development had yet to occur. As follows:
France
Troyes, Bourges, Clermont, Bordeaux, Le Mans - reduced one Barracks level
Britain
London, Birmingham, Plymouth, Devon, Edinburgh - reduced one Barracks level
Sweden
Gothenburg, Umea - reduced one Barracks level
Prussia
Bialystock, Breslau, Liegnitz, Thorn - reduced one Barracks level
Austria
Ofen, Debretzin, Neusatz, Koniggratz - reduced one Barracks level
Russia
St Petersburg, Riga, Kargopol, Rovno - reduced one Barracks level
Turkey
Nish, Monastir - reduced one Barracks level
Spain
Leon, Barcelona - reduced one Barracks level

commanderassignments.txt
Most at-start Generals are assigned to Containers, though a few remain unassigned, such as the Russian General Bennigson,
who is in Moscow (doubtless already conspiring to kill Czar Paul) ;-)

generals.txt
All Generals are modded to appear at an historically appropriate time. I used existing time-frames where applicable, but in cases
where a General is appearing earlier and at lower rank for this Campaign, I did the research to narrow-down entry dates.

Fame is modded for many Generals, in order to create an environment where historically notable Generals will likely promote
before a less well-known (or randomly generated) General. Player actions have great impact on this. Be sure to keep Generals
you want to promote,in the "action" (and side-line ones that may be getting too much Fame for their own good).

It is likely that many Generals will promote sooner than historical, simply because players fight a lot more wars
than was historical. More wars/battles = more opportunities for Fame and earlier promotion.

NOTE: You can always use the "Remove General" clause in your Treaty creator to remove a General that you find "in the way" of
another you'd like to see promoted, or maybe a random General has been created that you want removed, etc - just use that
Treaty clause to remove him.

events.txt
Changed the chance of the "Crop Failure" Event to 1% (from 4%). In this 240 turn scenario, it will still happen 2 or 3 times,
on average. Feel free to mod this back to 4% if you happen to enjoy this event.

DATA FILES

File Changes -

AiUpgrades.txt
The standard AiUpgrades.txt file is set for the 1805 scenario, where Nations (especially France) have a lot of starting Upgrades.
The file is modded here to include the Upgrades the Nations don't start with in this earlier scenario.

As a Data file, this file will be need to be moved to the Data folder, reeplacing the existing AiUpgrades.txt file. For
safety sake you can back up the original, although since the AI skips over any Upgrades it already has, this file can actually
be left in place for any scenario.
