Important! The aircraft and tanks in this custom OBWIR are designed to use the expanded Icon set produced by Rich Dionne. If you do not have these expanded icons, you can find them at this web address http://home.earthlink.net/~tmflood/page2.html Important! This campaign must be played with computer control of Factory/AFV/Aircraft upgrades ENABLED; Otherwise many of the obsolete AFV’s and aircraft will not be upgraded to their newer counterparts. The only way for these AFV’s and aircraft to upgrade is vis the automatic upgrade path as they cannot be selected manually in the case of some AFV’s, and many obsolete aircraft will actually convert to a completely different aircraft type, not selectable by manual upgrade. The Map: 1) Added a railway line linking 40,0 to 45,0 (To represent off map railheads/connectivity, and to allow the Finns to actually conduct an offensive into Karelia) 2) Added a new minor city, Yaroslav, to hex 55,12 (home of a significant population, and an Artillery factory and Aero plant.) 3) Added a minor city to hex 57,14 to represent Ivanho 4) Made Gorki a major city. 5) Added a railway line linking Vologda (55,9) to Gorki (61,18), via 56,10 to 60,10 to 62,15 (this line did exist in 1941 according to my reference maps) 6) Moved the river flowing from 59,19 to 60,17, so as to flow from 59,19 to 61,19 then to 62,17. (My maps all show Gorki as being on the western bank of this river, not the eastern.) 7) Diverted the railway line linking Gorki( 61,18) to Kazan(69,16) to travel via hexes 64,12 to 69,12. (Actually my maps show no such railway line, but they do show Gorki as having a railway line to Kirov, which is off map, and Kirov has a railway line linking into the Kazan – Serdevolisk railway; So I put in this connection to simulate this off map connectivity.) 8) Diverted the railway line linking Saratov(67,29) to Kazan(69,16) to go via 67,21 to 67,23 to 66,25 to 66,27. 9) Diverted the railway line linking Saratov(67,29) to the Voronezh Junction (58,25) to travel via 67,28 to 66,27, to 62,27 to 61,25. 10) Diverted the railway line linking Saratov(67,29) to Stalingrad(65,37) to travel via 66,29 to 64,33 to 65,35. 11) Added a new railway line from Ivanho (57,14) to 57,18 via 58,16. 12) Added a new railway line from Gorki (61,28) to 59,22 13) Added a minor city to hex 61,47 to represent the city of Stavropol 14) Added a railway line crossing two rivers, connecting 49,48 to 51,39. (To represent the Kerch ferry, and also to stop the Crimea folding like a house of cards once the northern rail link is cut.) 15) Added a new railway line linking Batumi (58,58) to Mikop (57,50) via 55,53 16) Added a minor city to hex 42,43 to represent the city of Nickolayev 17) Altered the railway lines around hex 45,39 to conform more closely to my reference maps 18) Add a new minor city Chisinau, to hex 36,43. (Full of oppressed Romanians....) 19) Added a minor city to hex 18,29 to represent the city of Poznan. 20) Deleted the railway line 33,10 to 33,12. 21) Deleted the railway line 42,14 to 44,14. 22) Added a new railway line connecting 48,16 to 48,15 to 48,14. 23) Moved the railway line 48,10 to 50,12 to run 47,10 to 48,13 24) Added a railway line connecting 71,8 to 56,10 via 69,12 to 64,12 to 63,10. 25) Added a railway line connecting 55,5 to 68,5. 26) Added a railway line connecting 70,6 to 71,8. 27) Added a railway line connecting 70,4 to 71,2 28) Added a minor city to hex 69,5 to represent the city of Kotlas. 29) Added a minor city to hex 52,8 to represent the city of Cerepovec. 30) Added a minor city to hex 33,11 to represent the city of Tartu. 31) Added a minor city to hex 68,26 to represent the city of Syzran. 32) Added a river running 66,0 to 68,5 to 67,7 (the Dvina) 33) Added a river running 69,4 to 70,1 (the Vgcedd) 34) Deleted the railway line connecting 38,13 to 40,14. 35) Replaced the railway line in hex 33,12 with a river tile. 36) Added a railway line connecting 34,18 to 40,18. 37) Deleted the railway line in hex 33,19 38) Added Lake Kachovskoje to hexes 45,42 to 47,42 39) Added Lake Cimlanskoje to hexes 60,40 to 62,40, and 61, 40 and 62,39 40) Extended lake Vodochranilsce past Saratov to hex 68,29 41) Added Lake Kujbysevskoje to hexes 69,20 to 69,26. 42) Added Lake Gorkovskoje to hexes 58,11 to 60,16. 43) Added Lake Rybinskoje to hexes 53,9 to 53,11. 44) Reduced the unknown lake adjacent to Kalinin to one hex size. 45) Added Lake Ozero Seliger to hex 46,13 46) Altered hex 34,8 to a river on the east hexside, 35, 8 to a rail hex, and added an all sea hexside between hexes 35,8 – 34,9. To allow the railway along 34,8 – 35,8 to be held from either side by a single unit. 47) Added a rail spur running from 68,18 to 66,18 and from 62,18 to 64,18; So the Soviet AI doesn’t place it’s STAVKA and RVGK HQ’s in low supply/non-rail hexes. (I have found that the Soviet AI will usually move STAVKA and RVGK to 2-3 hexes away from Kazan towards Gorki, or to the east of Gorki, regardless of the suitability of these hexes.) Aircraft: Altered most aircraft to conform to data taken from multiple sources (mainly WIF-Combat Aircraft Specifications C1992, Orbis Encyclopedia of Weapons of the Second World War, and the web site Elevon.) Added the following new aircraft. Fw-190G, Bf-110G, Ju-87D, Ju-188, Macchi 205, S.M.79, Cant Z.1007, IAR-80, CR-42bis, He-112, Blenheim I, Buffalo, Ju-86k, I-15bis, I-16 SPB, Yak-9DD, Pe-3/Pe-21, DB-3B, Yak-2/Yak-4, Pe-8/Yer-2, Li-2, Junkers. Replaced the following aircraft: Ju-87 Stuka with Ju-87B; Ju-87 PzJg with Ju-87G; Mixed Fighter with Falco/Hejja (Re 2000); G-55 with Sagittario ( Re 2005); Mixed Bomber with Ca 135; I-15 with I-153; MiG-1 with MiG-1/I-17; LaGG-3s66 with La-5 Aircraft re-ordered into a more logical sequence, with many of the old & obsolete aircraft moved to the bottom of the list, so they are the ones that don't appear in the pools listing. UPGRADE PATHS Bf-109E to Bf-109F to Bf-109G to BF-109K Fw-190A to FW-190D Bf-110C or Bf-110E/F to Bf-110G to Me-410A Ju-87B to Ju-87D to Ju-87G to FW-190G Ju-86K to Ju-87D Macchi 200 to Macchi 202 to Macchi 205 Falco/Hejja to Sagittario S.M.79 to CANT Z1007 Do-17Z to Do-217 Ju-88A to Ju-188 He-112 to Bf-109G Fokker D.XXI to Bf-109G IAR-80 to Bf-109G I-15bis to Hurricane II to Spitfire IX I-153 to Il-2/M3 I-16 to Yak-1 to Yak-7B to Yak-9M to Yak-3 to Yak-9U I-16 SPB to Airacobra to Kingcobra I-17/MiG-1 to Yak-7B MiG-3 to La-5 LaGG-3 to La-5 to La-5FN to La-7 Tomahawk to Thunderbolt Mitchell to Boston 3 Su-2 to Il-2/M3 Il-2 to Il-2/M3 to Il-10 SB-2bis to Pe-2 to Tu-2 Yak-2/Yak-4 to Tu-2 DB-3B to Il-4 Junkers to Li-2 Aircraft not listed do not have an upgrade path. Some of the new aircraft use icons that do not mach the aircraft very well, this is because there is nothing in the Air1.sys that comes close. The inappropriate icons are: Li-2 uses He-111 icon (as this is the only icon with the correct wing shape and two engines.); Pe-8 uses TB-3 icon; CR-42bis uses I-15 icon; Buffalo uses Re-2000 icon; Blenheim uses Ju-88 icon; CANT Z-1007 uses SM-79 icon; Ju-86k uses Ju-52 icon; He-112 uses Mig-1 icon; IAR-80 uses Machi-200 icon. Aircraft I’d like to have added in but didn’t, due to lack of Pool display lines (and airgroups to use them, and suitable icons for some) were. Ar-234; Do-335; Ta-152; He-162; Ju-87R; Ju-287; MiG-7; La-9; Pe-2bis; Ar-2; Pe-8 Ash-82; Yak-2; Yer-2; Spitfire VC; P-40 (USAAF); Spitfire IX (USAAF) Armoured Fighting Vehicles: Added in the following new AFV’s: T-38 (at start), T-40 (at start), T-26 M39E (at start), T-50 (at start), BT-2 (at start), BT-7M (at start), T-34 M41 (at start), T-44 (22 Oct. 1944), KV-1 M40 (at start), ZiS-30 (21 Sept 1941), Su-76M (30 May 1943), Matilda (7 Sept 1941) , Sherman 76 (24 Sept. 1944), Lynx (3 Jan. 1943), Pz-35(t) (at start), Jpz-IV/48 (5 Dec.1943), L6/40 (at start), Pz-35-S(f) (at start), PzJg-76mm (3 Aug.1941), Puma (3 Jan.1943), Flammpanzer II (at start), Mineraumm (4 Jan.1942). Changed the availability dates of the Nashorn to 21 February 1943; The Pz-IVg to 15 March 1942; The Pz-IVh to 7 March 1943; The Panther to 10 January 1943; The Hetzer to 12 December 1943; The KV-1 M41 to 6 July 1941; The Valentine to 4 January 1942; The Lee to 3 May 1942; The SU-76 to 29 November 1942. Changed the name of the Jpz-IV to Jpz-IV/70; Changed the name of PzJg-1b to PzJg-47mm; Changed the name of the Grant to Lee; Changed the name of Valentine 3 to Valentine; changed the name of the Sherman to Sherman 75; Changed the name of IS-2M to IS-2 Changed the upgrade path of the following tanks. Pz-IIf now upgrades to Lynx, which in turn upgrades to Hetzer R-35 now upgrades to M-15/42 Pz-38(t) and Pz-38t(e) now upgrades to Pz-IIIj Pz-IIIm now upgrades to Pz-IVj. Nashorn now upgrades to PzJg-IV/70 PzJg-47mm now upgrades to Marder II. Marder II and Marder III now upgrades to Hetzer T-70, and SU-76 now upgrades to Su-76M BT-5, T-26 M40, T-28 M40E, and T-34 M40 now upgrade to T-34 M41 BT-7 now upgrades to T-34 M43 Valentine now upgrades to Sherman 75 Sherman 75 now upgrades to Sherman 76 KV-II now upgrades to KV-1 M41 KV-1 M41 now upgrades to KV-1S Pz-35(t) will upgrade to Pz-IIIj Pz-35-S(f) will upgrade to Pz-IVj PzJg-76mm will upgrade to Marder III PzJg-IV/48 will upgrade to PzJg-IV/70 Flammpanzer will upgrade to Pz-IIIm Mineraumm will upgrade to Pz-IVh T-38 will upgrade to T-60 T-40 will upgrade to T-70 BT-2 will upgrade to T-34 M41 T-50, T-26 M39E, BT-7M and T-34 M41 will upgrade to T-34 M43 T-34/85 will upgrade to T-44 KV-1 M40 will upgrade to KV-1E Matilda will upgrade to Lee ZiS-30 and SU-76 will upgrade to SU-76M SU-122 now has no upgrade RE-worked the values of the all the original AFV’s, using the SPW@W v7.1 OOB’s. Most notably the following are now unique vehicles, and may not be manually upgraded from/to. PzJg-47mm (ex PzJg-1b), Pz-IIf, Lynx, Puma, Nashorn, R-35, L-6/40, Flammpanzer, Mineraumm, T-37, T-38, T-40, BT-2, BT-5, T-28E, T-35, T-26 M40, ZiS-30, Su-76, Lee, Sherman 75, Sherman 76. Please see accompanying spreadsheet (AFV’s) for details. Note that automatic upgrades will still occur, provided that the unit meets the criteria for having an upgrade. (It has less than the maximum number of AFV’s; And there are more than (50 plus the required number to replace the existing AFV’s), of the new AFV’s in the Pool, when the AI gets to the unit during the check for upgrade step. The Flammpanzer, Mineraumm, Pz-IIf, Lynx, Puma, R-35, L-6/40, T-37, T-38, T-40, T-60, and T-70 have been classified as support, rather than as medium tanks, as they where all used predominately for reconnaissance or support, and not as Front line combat tanks. Changed the slot # of the Hetzer from #27 to #26, so the program now treat’s it as a light TD. Cities: Replaced Uman with Chrisinau; 1 Population, no oil or resources, Axis allegiance. Replaced Tihkivin with Yaroslav; 5 Population, no oil or resources, Allied allegiance Added 5 oil, and an oil potential of 10 to the city of Bialystok. Added 5 Resources to the city of Sofia. Factories: Completely overhauled the Axis and Soviet Tank Production. Please see accompanying spreadsheet (Axis Factories/ Soviet Factories ) for details. Possum recommended House rule: Factories producing the L-6/40, PzJg-47mm, SM-79, SM-81, Macchi 202, Macchi 205, Fokker D.XXI, Matilda, Valentine, Lee, Sherman 75, Sherman 76, Hurricane IIc, Spitfire IX, Airacobra, Tomahawk, Thunderbolt, Kingcobra, Michell, and Boston 3, should not be altered to produce anything except the specified upgrade. Ideally these factories should be left for the computer to manage. Factories producing the Falco/Hejja, Sagittario, IAR-80, Ca-135, CANT Z.1007, B.R.20, M-13/41 and M-15/43 are still hardcoded computer control only factories. Airgroups: Completely re-did the Airgroups. Not much change to the Axis forces. Airgroups placed in the order of : Finns; JG-1 to JG-301; Romanian Fighter; Italian 1st Stormo; Hungarian Fighter; JG-302; ZG; SG-1 to SG-9; Remaining Italian Fighters; SG-10; SKG; StG; KG; TrG + KGrzbV; Italian Bombers and Transport; Romanian Level Bombers; Hungarian Bombers; Romanian Ground Attack. The reason for the sequence being broken up is that the Axis minor airgroup slots are hard coded for their HQ of appearance. So in order to keep most of the nationalities arriving in the right places, I’ve had to resort to this arrangement Note that the Italian 1st Stormo will appear in the Romanian 4th Army HQ, if it is Destroyed. And the Italian 53rd and 54th Stormo will appear in O.K.H. if Destroyed (Think of them as potential Fascist Air Force airgroups for when Italy surrenders ;-) The Germans lost KGR-806, KGR-100, and K.fl.806, and gained a Ju-52 group. (The two KGR’s would grow too big, and so I merged them with existing KG’s; And K.fl.806 was occupied performing anti shipping strikes and maritime patrols in the Baltic. (it would also grow too big.) The Romanians get a He-111h bomber group, and the Italians get a S.M.81 transport group. Duplicate ZG-26 group renamed ZG-76. Most Axis minor airgroups have new aircraft types. The Soviet Airforce has been completely overhauled. The majority now start with obsolete aircraft (Now start with the following airgroups: 3 x I-15bis; 8 x I-153; 11 x I-16; 3 x I-16 SPB; 1 x Mig-1/I-17; 2 x Yak-1; 9 x Mig-3; 2 x LaGG-3, 1 x Pe-3/Pe-21, 8 x SB-2bis; 2 x Su-2; 1 x Il-2; 4 x Pe-2; 1 x Yak-2/Yak-4; 4 x DB-3B; 6 x Il-4; 1 x TB-3; and 1 x Pe-8/Yer-2 equipped airgroups. Some of these airgroups are understrength.) Airgroups with PVO in the Name are part of the Soviet Air Defence Forces. Airgroups with LRF in the name are the Long Range Escort Formations of the Soviet Bomber Corps. Airgroups with LRB in the name are the Bomber formations of the Soviet Bomber Corps Possum recommended House rule: For more realism, the Soviet PVO designated air groups should only be equipped with interceptor type aircraft, and should never be deployed outside of the Soviet Union. Scheduled Soviet Reinforcing Airgroups are now. Turn 1 Aeroflot.1 Junkers exp.40 32 operation a/c, 208 damaged a/c Aeroflot.2 Li-2 exp.40 30 operational a/c, 10 damaged a/c Turn 2 37 Air Div I-153 exp.50 150 operational a/c, no damaged a/c Naval Aviation Il-4 exp.50 100 operational a/c, 20 damaged a/c Turn 3 38 Ftr. I have made the assumption that when transferred west, they will leave the obsolete aircraft behind and arrive with only the IL-2’s. This assumption was made to give the soviet player some earlier appearing, Il-2 equipped, Air groups (Instead of having to wait for mass conversion of I-153’s to the Il-2m3) Also the first Aeroflot group starts with so many damaged Junkers, as the computer will replace the Junkers with Li-2, as soon as the Li-2 pool exceeds the total no. of Junkers in the airgroup. I wanted the computer to leave the Junkers in service for a while, and at the same time have a largish pool of Li-2 at the start to represent all the Aeroflot Li-2's distributed throughout the Soviet Union on Domestic services. No changes to the US airforce. HQ's: All the Axis HQ's re-arranged in the order. Finnish Army, Pz Army, German Army, Hungarian Army, Romanian Army, Italian Army, Army Groups, Fronts, OKW, OKH. Note that the Finnish Army, the Front HQ's, OKW, and OKH are hard coded for their slots and so were not altered from their original positions. Soviet HQ's re-arranged in the order. STAVKA, Compass Direction starting with Northern and ending with South-East, then Alphabetically starting with Baltic and ending with Voronezh, then RVGK. Some Soviet HQ's where re-named. Lenningrad renamed Northern, 1st Beylorussian renamed Beylorussian, and 2nd. Beylorussian renamed Karalian. Some HQ's were found to be in the wrong locations and so were moved. Please see the accompanying Excel spreadsheet for details. Armies/Korps: Axis Korps Re-arranged into increasing numerical value within the following order; SS, German Army, German Security, Luffwafe, Slovakian, Finnish, Romanian, Hungarian, Italian. Deleted 19th Ge Pz Korps, 80th, 81st, 82nd, 83rd, 84th, 88th Ge Korps. (as all of these Korps served the duration of the war in France, the Low Countries, and Italy.), Altered the names of the three Hungarian korps to Mobile, 7th, and 8th Korps. Added 36th Mtn. Ge Korps, 76th and 77th Ge Pz Korps, 103 RHG Korps, 3rd LW Korps, 1st Romanian Korps, and the Corazzata Italian Pz Korps. Altered the Italian Expeditionary Korps, the Finnish Gr.”O”, the Romanian Cav Korps , and the Hungarian Mobile Korps to be Motorised Korps. (type 19) This gives the Axis a total of 20 Panzer Korps, and 4 Motorised Corps Soviet Armies/Corps are also re-arranged in increasing numerical value. But select Armies & Corps were combined so that when the soviet corps are abolished, the 1st Army, 2nd Army, 15th Army, 17th Army, and 25th Army will not appear (as these armies remained in the Far East, Siberian and Transbakial M.D.’s) The first 5 Armies are now Guards Armies (Nos 1 to 5), with the normal Armies starting with the 3rd Army. And then proceeding up to the 27th Army. The Armies are followed by the normal Rifle Corps, then by the Mechanised Corps. These Corps will be upgraded and renumbered into the 28th to 80th Armies. Then there are 4 Motorised Cavalry Corps. (These will not be upgraded into armies, they will stay as Motorised Cavalry Corps for the whole game.) then comes two Polish People’s Guards Armies ( 1st & 2nd LWP), followed by 5 Shock Armies, 3 Guards Tank Armies, and 5 Tank Armies. This gives the Soviets a total of 12 permanent Mechanised Armies and Corps. 5 Shock Armies, and 7 Guards Armies. Many Armies/Korps/Corps have been re-located. Please see the accompanying Excel spreadsheet for details. Possum recommended House rule: Only Cavalry, Light Cavalry, Mountain Cavalry, Mech. Cavalry, and Motorized Rifle Divisions, are the only divisions/corps allowed in the four Motorised Cavalry Corps. And then only a maximum of 5 Divisions per corps. During testing, It was found that the A.I. use of HQ’s was hardcoded, So if playing the A.I. you will notice that it will use an inappropriate HQ for a particular sector. Eg The Soviet A.I. will deploy the Karalian HQ in Beylourussia. This has no effect on the actual performance of the A.I. It just means that when playing the Computer, expect to see unhistorical HQ deployments. This “Bug” was left as I felt that having the HQ’s in a Logical order for ease of use by a Human player, was of greater benefit. Divisions: I have deleted the following German Infantry Divisions. The Brandenburg, and the 2nd Romanian Motorised Divisions ; The 77th; 84th ; 85th; 176th; 243rd; 264th; 265th; 266th; 275th; 278th; 319th; 349th; 355th; 356th; 357th; 359th; 361st; 362nd; 367th; 371st; 376th; 377th; 385th; 389th; 704th; 709th; 712th; 715th; 716th; 719th.; The 10th Finnish Infantry Division; The 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, and 20th Lt. Hungarian Infantry Divisions. (Most of these divisions were in out of the way places, and so did not contribute much to the Active Fronts. Besides I had to delete something in order to add in the new divisions that were present in the active fronts.) And replaced them with the following new Divisions. The Giovani F SS Motorised Division (will eventually transform into a PzG Div. Note this is actually an Italian Division, it is classified as an SS division so it will not vanish when Italy surrenders. Also so it count’s for SS garrison requirments.); The Centauro It Pz. Division; The 1st Finnish Cavalry Division; The 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Romanian Cavalry Divisions; The Nord SS Mountain Division; The 1st Ski Mountain Division; ; The 99th Lt. Mountain Division; The 2nd Finnish Ski Mountain Division; The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Romanian Mountain Divisions; The Alpini ( I know, it’s not the correct name, but I have been unable to determine which of the 4 Alpini divisions actually went to Russia.) Italian Mountain Division; The 162nd and 169th Infantry Divisions; The 164th Lt. Motorised Division; The 334th and 344th Infantry Divisions; 201st, 203rd, 403rd, 431st, 556th, 559th, 582nd, 583rd, and 584th Security Divisions; The 3rd and 6th Finnish Infantry Divisions; The Frontier, 3rd, and 11th Romanian Infantry Divisions; The 2nd, 5th, 8th, 21st, and 24th Lt. Hungarian Infantry Divisions; The 25th Hungarian Security Division; The Bologna It Motorised Division. (Note that at the start of Barbarossa, all of the Hungarian Light Divisions were actually L.O.C. security divisions. With a division number equal to their given number plus 100. Eg the 2nd Lt. was originally the 102nd Security Division.) Polizei SS infantry division now a Motorised Division. (It was Motorised in January 1942, and became officially a PzG Division in February 1943, if you want you can turn it back into a infantry division, and then reclassify it as a Motorised division in January 1942. I made the assumption that being SS, they could have all the trucks they wanted; So they may as well start as a Motorised Division. It will automatically upgrade to a PzG div. In September 1943.) Possum recommended House rule: Do not assign, or use, the Polizie SS Motorised division as part of a Panzer Korps, until the start of January 1942. Trento It Infantry Division is now a Motorised Division. (as it should be, as it was historically a full motorised division.) The 5th, 8th, and 28thInfantry Divisions are now the 5th Lt., 8th Lt., and 28th Lt. Mountain divisions (They were made into Lt. Mountain divisions in September 1941). These divisions start with a full infantry Division strength, to represent the fact that they were still infantry divisions at the start of Barbarossa.) The 97th Lt., 100th Lt., and 101st Lt. Infantry divisions were reclassified as Mountain divisions to better represent their capabilities, and to restrict them to a Mountain division’s strength. (Otherwise they would grow too big for a light division.). Likewise the 1st Finnish Ski Infantry Division was also reclassified as a mountain division for the same reasons. The Bologna, Brescia, Pasubio, and Pavia Italian Infantry + Motorised divisions were made motorised. (These four divisions were in fact semi-motorised. But given the lack of the bulk of the Italian Army, I decided that they should be full motorised. As an alternative, two or all of these divisions could be changed back into Leg infantry if desired.) The 14th Motorised, and the 90th Lt. Motorised were moved to be in with the regular German infantry Divisions, to prevent them from turning into panzergrenadier divisions. The Dtchmstr, 57th, 75th, 167th, 255th, 267th, 269th, 290th and 298th German Infantry Divisions were made motorised. (The logic being that the German army had sufficient reserve transport capacity in it’s Panzer Korps transport assets, to enable a (ie ONE) regular Leg Infantry Division to keep up with the Panzer Korp’s regular Panzer, PzG, and Motorised Divisions. The above divisions were chosen to be motorised as they start operation Barbarossa assigned to a Panzer Korps/Army. ) Possum recommended House rule: Only allow one of these “Motorised” divisions per Panzer Korps, and that Korps must also have at least a Panzer Division present. Many of the new Axis divisions were in fact Brigades at 22 June 1941, They are present as Divisions, because they will later be upgraded to Divisions. These divisions start with only a brigade’s strength. All Axis divisions re-organised into the order of SS Panzer and Panzergrenadier Divisions (except Polizei); Named German Panzer Divisions & Brigades; Numbered German Panzer Divisions and Brigades; Polizei Panzergrenadier Division; German Army Panzergrenadier Divisions; Italian Panzergrenadier Division; Axis minor Panzer Divisions (Romanian, Hungarian, then Italian); Axis Minor Motorised Divisions; All Cavalry Divisions (SS, then German, Then Romanian, then Hungarian, then Italian); All Mountain Divisions; All Lt. Mountain divisions; All Ski Mountain divisions; Fleigkorps divisions; Airborn divisions; German Army Infantry and Motorised Divisions; German Army Static Divisions; German Army Volksgrenadier divisions; German Army Security Divisions; Slovakian Infantry Divisions; Finnish Infantry Divisions; Romanian Infantry Divisions; Hungarian Infantry divisions; Italian Infantry and semi-motorised Divisions. I have deleted the following Soviet Divisions. 59th Tank Division; 110th to 119th Cavalry Divisions; 63rd; 68th ; 76th; 131st; 192nd; 216th; 231st; 255th; 275th; 304th; 305th; 406th; 407th; 408th; 409th; 417th; 418th; 421st; 424th to 464th. Many of the Rifle divisions did not exist,(well I couldn’t fine evidence of their existence) or if they did, never became operational. Some of the Rifle divisions where duplicates of already existing Mountain or Motorised Divisions. The 59th Tank Division never left the Far East. The 110th to 119th Cavalry were deleted due to a) poor information about them; b) Lack of space for the Divisions, and c) Lack of space for the division’s tank regiments. And replaced them with the following new Divisions. The 221st Motorised Rifle Division; The 4th Cavalry division; The Chi-Lin, Crimea, Don, Kalmyk, K.B. and Odessa Cossack Cavalry Divisions; The 101st to 109th Mechanised Cavalry Divisions, as well as the Mongolian Mechanised Cavalry Division; The 69th, 138th, and 242nd Mountain Divisions; The 4th, 71st, 73rd, 166th; 189th, 237th, 241st, 243rd, 245th, 247th, 249th, 250th, 251st, 253rd, 254th, 265th, 266th, 267th, 269th, 270th, 272nd, 273rd, 274th, 276th, 279th, 301st, 303rd, and 306th Rifle divisions; The Black Sea Fleet, The Northern Fleet, and the Pacific Fleet Naval Motorised Rifle Divisions (these 3 divisions represent the 20+ Motorised Rifle Brigades fielded by the Soviet Navy); The 22nd NKVD Motorised Division; the 1st LWP (Polish People’s Army) Guards Tank Corps; The 1st LWP Guards Cavalry Division; The 1st to 10th LWP Guards Rifle Divisions.. Note that the Mongolian and Polish Divisions have been classified as Guards, so as to prevent them from losing their National notation in their name. The following Divisions have been changed. 103rd Rifle to 103rd Motorised Division; 30th Rifle to 30th Mountain Division; 72nd Rifle to 72nd Mountain Division; 194th Rifle to 194th Mountain Division; 302nd Rifle to 302nd Mountain Division; 21st Mountain became 21st Rifle Division. The 1st, 17th, 18th, 20th, and 39th Cavalry Divisions have been renamed Mountain Cavalry; And the 23rd and 30th Cavalry Divisions have been renamed Light Cavalry. (For game purposes, this means they don’t have an attached Cavalry Tank Regiment. They will eventually acquire a Tank Battalion after August 1943.) Many Soviet divisions have been given their Honorific Names, although greatly shortened. Please see the spreadsheet for the full names. Re-arranged the Soviet divisions to place all of the permanent motorized divisions after the cavalry divisions; Also the Polish Cavalry Division, the Mongolian Cavalry Division, and the Polish Tank Corps, are listed directly after the Soviet Cavalry Divisions, and Soviet Tank Corps. Subunits: Subunits have been completely re-done. All SS Panzer Divisions and the G.D. Panzer division have gained a 3rd Panzer Battalion equipped with Tigers. All German Panzer Divisions, excluding the 26th , now have 3 Panzer Battalions and a PanzerJager Battalion. The PanzerJager Battalion is listed before the Panzer Battalion, And in many cases starts equipped with Pz-II’s and is classified as a Panzer Battalion. (Think of it as the division’s Panzer Recon. Bn.) This Panzer battalion will eventually become a PanzerJager Battalion equipped with Hetzer’s or Marder III’s Many Motorised Divisions have lost their organic Panzer Battalion, and instead gained a PanzerJager Battalion. All Independent PanzerJager Battalions are now grouped together, regardless of whether they have AT guns or Jadgpanzers. Many German Infantry Divisions now get an attached PanzerJager Battery in late 1943/early 1944. All the early appearing SS divisions now have their attached StuG Battalions, and have had their PanzerJager battalions removed until 4 Jan 1942, when they will get them back. All of the Italian Panzer Divisions now have three Medium and one Light Panzer Battalion. The Fully Motorised Italian Divisions, and the Italian Cavalry Division, now have one medium Panzer battalion each. I was undecided about whether to group the German independent artillery battalions by Regiments or Brigades. I have for the present grouped them by Brigades, with the exception of the Super Heavy Artillery Battalions, which are by themselves. Axis sub units now in the order of: SS Divisional Panzer; SS Independent Heavy Panzer; Panzer Division PanzerJager/PanzerRecon; Panzer Division Panzer; Independent Heavy Panzer; Independent Panzer; SS Divisional PanzerJager; Independent PanzerJager; Divisional PanzerJager (excluding Panzer Divisions); Axis Minor Panzer; Axis Minor PanzerJager; SS Divisional StuG; Independent and Divisional StuG; (Soviet Tank) ; German Artillery Brigades; German Artillery Divisions; German Superheavy Artillery Battalions; German Rocket Artillery; Axis Minor Artillery Regiments; (Soviet Artillery); German Infantry and VG Divisional PanzerJager Batteries; (Soviet AT and SPG’s); Lufftwafe Flak; German Army Flak; Axis Minor Flak. German Independent Heavy Recon. All Battalions are in increasing Alphanumerical Order within class and nationality. Axis Minor order is Slovakian, Finnish, Romanian, Hungarian, then Italian. All Soviet Tank Divisions now start with at least two Tank Regiments (although a few of these regiments only have 4 tanks in them!) By Late August 1941, All Soviet tank Divisions will have three Tank Regiments. All Soviet Regular Cavalry Divisions now have a Cavalry Tank Brigade attached. All Soviet Motorised Rifle Divisions now have an Infantry Tank Regiment attached. (I decided to give the Motorised Divisions their tank regiments, even though they will soon turn into normal Rifle divisions. As a means of compensating for the lack of space to assign an Infantry Tank Battalion to every Rifle Division. If desired, these Infantry Tank Regiments could be made independent, and assigned to the same Mechanised corps as it’s original parent Motorised Division. Don’t do this for 1st Moscow M.R.D. though. The 6th, 21st, 100th, and 146th Rifle Divisions have an attached Infantry Tank Regiment. (These four divisions were the elite of the Soviet army at the time of Barbarossa. So I felt that they should have something extra. Plus I still needed to assign more regiments to represent the many Infantry Tank Battalions not covered by the regiments attached to the Motorised divisions. Again, these four Tank Regiments could be made Independent if you feel that they shouldn’t be assigned directly to a Rifle Division. Just remember that the Soviets are going to rapidly run out of places to put these new independent regiments though.) As a Historical note, I found many examples of Soviet Rifle Divisions having their own Infantry Tank Regiment. (As opposed to the Infantry Tank Battalion that, on paper, every Rifle Division should have.) The 21st in fact arrived in Moscow in August 1941 from the Far East with such a Tank Regiment as part of its regular divisional assets. The 1st Moscow Motorised Rifle Division will also get a SPG Regiment. The Mechanised Cavalry Divisions have two tank Brigades each. (One Cavalry, and one Light.) The Mongolian Mechanised Cavalry Division has two Tank Brigades and a SPG Regiment. The Naval Motorised Rifle Divisions have a Naval Tank Battalion each. The NKVD Motorised Rifle Division has a NKVD Tank Battalion. There are many new Independent Tank Regiments and Battalions, one of which starts in the 3rd Army, and the rest becoming available from July to August 1941. One of these Regiments is equipped with T-50’s. The new Independent Tank Regiments are 220, 222, 225, 226, 229, 236, 239, 257, 258, 261,and 271. The new Independent Tank Battalions are 522, 524, 525, and 526. The previously present Independent Tank Brigades 501 to 520 have been downgraded to Independent Tank Battalions. (The Soviets never fielded Tank Brigades with these numbers. They did field Tank Battalions with these numbers though. Beside, there are more than sufficient Tank Brigades, as part of the Tank Corps, and Mechanised Corps already.) Additionally, Tank Battalions 517, 518 & 520 are now attached to the 17th, 18th, and 20th Mountain Cavalry Divisions. Note that all Soviet Cavalry Tank Brigades should be Regiments. They are classed as tank brigades, because if classified as Tank Regiments, they will not collect the correct number of tanks, and are liable to re-equip with heavy tanks. (The game is programmed so that all Tank Regiments accumulate the number of vehicles appropriate for an early war Heavy Tank Regiment, Regardless of what it is. ) The 1st Heavy to 13th Heavy Tank Regiments have been renamed 411th to 415th Heavy, 427th Heavy, and 437th to 443rd Heavy, and made into Battalions. Starting from August, 1941, all Airborn Divisions will gain an Airborn Tank Battalion, equipped with T-40’s. Starting from February 1943, All Tank Corps and Mechanised Corps gain a SPG Regiment. And starting from August, 1943, all Tank Corps gain a second SPG regiment of a type they do not currently have. Ie If the Tank Corps has a Assault gun SPG Regiment, the second SPG regiment will be a Tank Destroyer Regiment. Starting from August 1943, All Cossack Cavalry, Light Cavalry, and Mountain Cavalry Divisions gain a Tank Battalion Starting from 30th November 1941, The Soviets get a Tank Destroyer Brigade once a month, until 30th December 1942. These Brigades are classified as SPG Regiments. The many Soviet artillery regiments present at the start of Barbarossa, have been consolidated into Artillery Brigades. As have the AAA Battalions. The Soviets will also get four Breakthrough Artillery Divisions. One every three months, starting from 30th August 1942. The Soviet subunits are now in the order of: Soviet Tank Regiments and Brigades; Polish Tank Regiments and Brigades; (Axis Artillery); Soviet Artillery Brigades; Polish Artillery Brigades; Soviet Breakthrough Artillery Divisions; Soviet Rocket Artillery Divisions; (Axis PanzerJager Batteries); Soviet Anti-Tank Brigades; Soviet Tank Destroyer Brigades; Soviet SPG Regiments; Polish ATG Brigades and SPG Regiments; Mongolian Tank Brigades; (Axis Flak); Mongolian SPG Regiment; Soviet Flak Corps (216 guns), Divisions,(108 guns) and Brigades (40 guns). Playtesters - for Version 1 were Matthew Buttsworth, Andrew Dikov, Heikki Sikanen, and Set Karlsson. for Version 5 were Sean Sullivan, Radovan Prikryl, Bruce Giddings, Csirik Tamás, and Mike Marauder. Changes from v4 to V5 1)Introduced the following new AFV’s. Lynx, Puma, PzJg-76mm, L-6/40, Pz-35-S(f), Flammpanzer-II, Mineraumm, JPz-IV/48, T-26 M39E, T-50, T-38, T-40, BT-2, BT-7M, Matilda, Sherman 76, T-34 M41, T-44, KV-1 M41, ZiS-30, Su-76M. 2)Completely overhauled the Axis and Soviet Tank Production. Please see accompanying spreadsheet (Factories) for details. 3)RE-worked the values of the all the other AFV’s. 4)Changed the slot # of the Hetzer from #27 to #26, so the program now treat’s it as a light TD. 5)Re-arranged the Soviet divisions to place all of the permanent motorized divisions after the cavalry divisions; Also moved the Polish cavalry Division, and the Polish Tank Corps, to be listed directly after the Soviet Cavalry Divisions and Soviet Tank Corps. 6)All Soviet Cavalry Tank Regiments have been made into Brigades, so they will a) collect the right amount of tanks, and b) not re-equipped with heavy tanks. 7)Many Tank Regiments have been made into Tank Battalions, which is what they should have been. As now Tank battalions are capable of growing to 50 units! 8)Re-did the AFV’s of the Soviet Tank and SPG units, to give more historically correct AFV types 9)Changed the arrival location of the Reserve Soviet Divisions to arrive in their appropriate district HQ, where that District HQ is on the map. See the Reinforcement Schedule for details. 10)Changed the Starting values of the Reserve Soviet Divisions and subunits, to give them more initial equipment. Brand New Units still arrive in RGVK with a bare minimum of equipment. 11)Changed the 1st Battalion of the “at start” German Panzer Divisions back into a Panzer Abt, equipped with Pz-II’s. As the Pz-II is now non-upgradeable, they will eventually become PzJg Abt’s equipped with Hetzers. 12)Re-did the “at start” tanks of the Axis Panzer Abt’s to give a more historically correct types and numbers. 13)Delayed the arrival of the “at start” SS PzJg units until Jan-42. 14)Changed the Italian Giovani F Motorized division to SS nationality, to prevent it from disappearing apon the Italian collapse. 15)Added a PzJg unit to Giovani F, appearing Jan-42 16)Added the 91st Recon Abt, appearing Jan-43, Equipped with Puma’s 17)Added a railway spur coming out of Kazan to map sf3, to help the soviet AI, as it keeps on insisting on moving RGVK to a blasted swamp hex, miles from nowhere! 18)Altered hex 34,8 to a river on the east hexside, 35, 8 to a rail hex, and added an all sea hexside between hexes 35,8 – 34,9. To allow the railway along 34,8 – 35,8 to be held from either side by a single unit. 19)Added the 4th Soviet Cavalry Corps to the map NW of Stalingrad, So the Soviet Player has access to this corps, from the start. (Note, do not delete the Motorized cavalry corps, as the will not become available again until mid-43! 20)Moved the Soviet Northwest Front HQ one hex east, to prevent it from being overrun on the first turn by an aggressive German player. 21)Moved the Soviet Western Front HQ one hex northeast, to prevent it from being overrun on the first turn by an aggressive German player. 22)Altered the order of the Axis Minor Motorized and Panzer units so that now the Hungarian 1st Motorized Division will become a PanzerGrenadier Division, rather than the 1st Romanian Panzer Division. 23)Added the 5th Romanian Stug Abt to the Romanian 1st Pz Div, equipped with 12 x Stug-IIIb. 24)Added the 1st Hungarian PzJg Abt to the 1st Hungarian PzG division, arriving Turn 110 when it becomes the 1st PzG division. 25)Changed the arrival dates of the German Army Motorized Division’s PzJg Abt to be available at start, and now equipped with a mix of Stug-IIIb’s (3rd, 10th, 14th, 18th) and PzJg-47mm’s. (20th, 25th, 29th, 36th, 228th) 26)Re-ordered the Axis Panzer subunits, to include the new Axis minor Abts, and to place the SS PzJg units at the top of the PzJg queue so that they get reinforced fist. Also changed the “at start” equipment totals; Many StuG and PzJg Abt’s becoming larger. Abt’s now equipped with more historically correct AFV types. 27)Added 2 Artillery factories (both size 1, in Kursk, and Kharkov ) and three Recon factories for the Soviets ( Size 5 LL, arriving turn 19, size 30 in Gorki, size 5 in Kursk.) 28)Altered the 28th, 31st and the 32nd Air Divisions to arrive equipped with 25 x Il-2 instead of with 130 x I-153 (I am now assuming that these units will leave all the obsolete A/c behind when they move from Transbkial & Siberian MD’s, The main reason for the change is to get more Il-2 equipped units into service, and reduce the number of I-153 equipped units. 29) Added back the Il-4 factory in the Urals, that was deleted in v4 30)Increased the manpower available to the Soviets by 27% by making some cities manpower value larger. Please see accompanying spreadsheet (Cities) for details. 31)Decreased the “at start” total of Axis Heavy Industry to 68. Please see accompanying spreadsheet (Axis Factories) for details. 32)Removed a duplication of 2 Soviet cavalry divisions. (12th , 13th = Kuban Cossack, 15th = Don Cossack) Replaced with 2 new Divisions, the K.B. Cossacks, and the Mongolian Mech. Cavalry Division, arriving T 45 ( 10-May-42 ) 33)1st Finnish Pz Abt now uses Soviet Tanks, although it can be re-equipped with Axis tanks if desired. They will, if left alone, rebuild, and re-equip without problems with T-26 M39E’s, then T-34 M43’s and then T-34/85’s.. 34)fixed data entry errors with MKL 2nd Air group, and Ca-135, CANT.Z1007, and SM79 cannon values. 35)Re-worked the Soviet Airgroups, as I had obtaind more information on the composition and Types operated by the European Fronts. 36)A summary of the Unique AFV’s and their upgrade paths Pz-IIf (Light tank) to Lynx (light tank) to Hetzer (light TD) R-35 (Light tank) to M15/42 L6/40 (Light Tank) never upgrades PzJg-47mm (SP-ATG) to Marder II Nashorn (SP-ATG) to JPz-IV/70 Flammpanzer (Support) to Pz-IIIm Mineraumm (Support) to Pz-IVh Puma (Heavy Arm.Car) never upgrades BT-2, BT-5 (Cavalry tanks), T-26 M40 (Lt.Tank), and T-28 M40E (Med.Tank) to T-34 M41 T-37 and T-38 (Amphib tanks) to T-60 T-40 (Amphib.Tank) to T-70 T-35 (SuperHeavy Tank) to KV-1 M41 ZiS-30 ( SP-ATG) and SU-76 (Assault gun) to SU-76M Lee (Med.Tank) to Sherman 75 to Sherman 76 35) Pz-IIf, Lynx, Puma, R-35, L6/40, T-37, T-38, T-40, T-60, T-70, Flammpanzer, and Mineraumm are all classified as support, so (in theory) they are not used directly in combat as AFV’s. 36) Changed the I-15bis to a dive bomber, as new information found shows that only the close support/army cooperation regiments were using this aircraft at the start of Barbarossa. 37)Added 3 new Soviet aircraft. The I-16 SPB fighter bomber, the Pe-3/Pe-21 Fighter bomber, and the Yak-9DD Long range escort fighter. The I-16 SPB will upgrade to P-39’s, while the Pe-3/Pe-21 and the Yak-9DD have no upgrade. The soviet fighters have been re-arranged so that the 3 most minor fighters (I-15bis, I-16 SPB, Mig-1/I-17) are no longer displayed in the pools. 38)Changed the upgrade path of the Mig-1/I-17 to upgrade to the Yak-7B. 39)Changed the Ju-87G so it now upgrades to the Fw-190G. 40)Changed the Fw-190F so that it now has no upgrade. 41)Replaced the G-55 Centauro with the Macchi 205 42)Added the R.2005 Sagittario as a new upgrade for the Hejja 43)Changed the name of the Hejja to Falco/Hejja, Pe-8 to Pe-8/Yer-2, and Yak-4 to Yak-2/Yak-4
