I just bought WitP AE and I have a few questions regarding patches.

The game ships as version 1.00.79. I tried updating the game using the "Check For Update" link on the opening menu. Once I clicked the link, I receive a message that says "Downloading: Update Information from Server # 1 Creating handle.". After a while I receive an error message that reads "Error: Update information for War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition could not be downloaded. Please contact Matrix Games for help".

Since the "Check For Update" feature didn't work, I downloaded the version 1.01.24 patch from the Matrix site and applied the patch. I assume that the version 1.01.24 patch is a cumulative patch.

When I start the game, the version listed on the Main Menu Screen is listed as "Version 1.7.11.24-DEC 25 2014 12:59:11". Why is there a difference between the version number of the patch I downloaded and the version number listed in game? I'm trying to verify that I have the correct version of the patch installed and would greatly appreciate any insight into this issue.
