Our army suffered a dreadful defeat near Waterloo. No words can adequately describe the waste and horror of this tragic event. The army performed poorly on all levels, from top to bottom. Commanders performed with exceptionally bad judgement in the time and place of their attacks and entirely mismanaged even the simplest tasks on the defensive. The sorriest lot of ensigns at any of our military academies would have done a better job commanding the armies than the so-called professionals currently in command. A thorough investigation by the authorities is needed to weed out the numerous incompetents currently commanding our brave troops. Our valiant men deserve better leadership than this. Let's hope some changes are made so they can get it.

$EndMinorFail

The bravery of our soldiers was no match for the ineptitude of our generals this day. Our uncoordinated and poorly conceived attacks led to heavy losses to no lasting effect. The attacks of the enemy found gaps in the lines that the greenest lieutenant would recognize as fatal flaws. As a result, these assaults easily swept our dispirited soldiers from the field of battle. Our performance in this battle near Waterloo will not be held in high esteem by students of military science. A long and hard look at the current commanders is needed--new commanders could not do worse.

$EndDraw

The roar of battle rang loud and long near the previously quiet town of Waterloo. The valiant soldiers of our army met the enemy in heavy fighting. The lines of battle swept forward and were swept back in turn. The attacks were fierce and the defence was stout, but neither side could gain a lasting advantage. At the end of the day, both sides withdrew to their respective ridge-lines and set about reforming their battered formations. It is entirely expected that the battle will resume on the morrow. A better effort will be needed in the future if our army is to achieve victory on the field of battle.

This dispatch received from the field of battle.

A fierce combat resulted as our forces and the enemy met near the town of Waterloo. The fields and wood-lots near the town resounded to the roar of cannon, the blast of shell, and the rattle of musketry. The lines of battle swept back and forth as attack met attack. Our soldiers inflicted significant losses on the enemy in both killed and captured. They have retreated to strong positions and the battle may resume tomorrow.

We have this dispatch from our correspondent with the Army.

Our forces met the enemy on the field of battle near Waterloo. The battle was hard fought, with attack and counter-attack sweeping back and forth across the blood-soaked fields. The enemy soldiers could not withstand the bravery and skill of the forces led by this Great Captain. At the end of the battle the brilliant leadership of our commander resulted in victory for our valiant forces. He rallied the troops and inspired them to brilliant feats of arms. They swept the field of the enemy and are complete masters of the field. The results of this day will go down in history and be studied and admired for generations to come.

$EndKilled

We regret to inform our loyal readership that our gallant commander was killed in battle while leading his troops in the heavy fighting near Waterloo. He stood at the head of an attack on the enemy when he was pierced by a ball from the foe. In spite of the best efforts of the battalion surgeon, he passed from this earth not twenty minutes after being struck down. His loss pierced the hearts of his men and the attack faltered after he fell. His loss will be deeply felt, both by his men and by the rest of the army. We have it on good authority that he was slated for higher command. That vast potential is now lost to the army and the country, as well as his grieving family.
