Re: 30% no wait 15% off

Yes, the big banner saying 30% was visible on the front page of matrixgames.com. It was also visible, as seen in that (partial) screenshot, at the top of the page that showed the games currently on sale, so the same page was showing both 30% and 15%. I think that was https://www.matrixgames.com ...

Re: Harpoon Classic manuals?

This site is a good reference for so many versions of Harpoon :)

https://retroviator.com/harpoon/

Great article! I am slowly starting to understand how all the versions are connected. It was confusing at first when running the Harpoon Ultimate Edition installer and seeing all those versions ...

3 pdf manuals are listed in this link.

The link to the third is wrong, so go directly to the contents.

Harpoon Classic manuals?

I wanted to try the old Harpoon Classics (or at least the newest MSDOS version) that came with Ultimate, but it seems like no documentation is included for any version that old?

(H2 Deluxe Multimedia CDROM was the first Harpoon I played so no experience with H1/Classic.)

Re: Modern day mod

I am not sure how databases or eras work, but is it possible to add some western vehicle formations to Ukraine for 2023+? I think some educated guesses could be made about when they will first be available and what the platoons and companies they form will look like in reality. Most of the graphics ...

Re: Preserving Digital Gaming History

I do not have more than fits on a 4TB USB disk (connected to a Raspberry Pi as a cheap file-server), but that is enough for a lot of (old) stuff (like all games I bought, all scenarios I downloaded, documents, web forums, documents, ...)

What exactly do you have on your 4TB USB drive? I'd like ...

Re: Preserving Digital Gaming History

By coincidence a few days ago I searched for TOAW scenarios and found your uploaded files. Three links had the color of already visited links when I saw this post right now. Added the TOAW3 scenario collection to my little hoard.

Over 25 years online and seeing so many good things disappear, I do ...

Running on Mac and Linux? YES

<t> Just wanted to say I gambled on this game running on one of my computers, despite not having a native Windows install on any of them, and it still works great. Played for a few hours in WINE on my Ubuntu Linux laptop and then for a few more hours in Windows XP running inside of VirtualBox on my ...

RE: Some light UI improvements

<t> - Would it be possible to add single-key shortcuts? After a few hours I'm already tired of stretching my hand all over the keyboard to press ctrl-L and ctrl-F when it seems like just L or F would be enough and neither key seems to do anything on its own anyway (and the same for all other ctrl ...

Isn't this just one of the features of all specialist hobbies? Ever seen good quality military history books drop in value? No, the good ones never appear in bargain basement sales, and then second hand values rocket when they go out of print.

Another factor for me is the ease of downloading. It's a hassle with this site. If the process was easy like Steam where all you have to do is log in and hit "install" and take a nap, I'd be buying games from here.

<t> As I understand it from older threads, most wargames have been developed for Windows in ways that make them very difficult to port to any other platform. Full of Windows-specific code.<br/>

RE: Gaming on Linux - Steam?

<t> More Linux games would be nice. But I think for many (most) types of games the future is going to be "HTML5" soon anyway, either online or wrapped in something to look like a regular application, so it will be less important what OS you run anyway. For non-games it has been the case already for ...

I really hate the idea of putting parts of programs in different places. That's one thing that I really hate about using a Ubuntu derivative. Stuff goes to various folders, I can't even decide where a program should be installed, etc.
