Re: Turkish Warships Join the Fight, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Just uploaded version 2.

I've removed the Kynda and replaced her with another Soviet cruiser. The Soviets and the Syrians both still have missile boats. I also changed the number of aircraft...the player now gets 4 Canberras and 4 Shackletons (for ASW) on Cyprus, and 4 F-100s at Incirlik.

I look ...

Re: Turkish Warships Join the Fight, 1968 -- new beta for testing

I played around with a few different options and decided to swap out the Kynda for a Kirov-class cruiser. The group still has the two Kashin-class destroyers to provide anti-air coverage with their SAMs, and both cruisers have guns with a 12-mile range (longer than the 10-mile range of the biggest ...

Re: Turkish Warships Join the Fight, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Thanks, as always, for the feedback.

My understanding is the F-100s were American aircraft stationed in Turkey.

"After the Lebanon crisis, TAC deployed F-100 fighter squadrons on 100-day rotations to Incirlik from the United States. The flying mission at Incirlik further diversified in 1970 when ...

Turkish Warships Join the Fight, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Newest beta...

As battle rages in the skies over Turkey, the Turkish navy must deal with its own challenges. A Soviet SAG, and groups of missile boats, are located off the coast of Syria. Soviet submarines are in Turkish waters, too. The Syrians, while limited to smaller vessels, are also on the ...

Re: Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Any other thoughts on this scenario? Did the revisions handle the issues people have reported or are more changes needed before I submit it to the Community Scenario Pack? Thanks in advance.

Re: Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Thanks for the feedback. One of the changes I made to the second version was to remove the Scuds. I thought it would be an interesting addition to have them, and I was curious to see how effective they would be, but I think they make it too hard to defend the Nike Hercules sites (and it's already ...

Re: Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

Just uploaded version 2. Points have been tweaked and other minor changes (revised orders, squadron names, etc.) have been made.

One major change is the addition of a fifth Turkish air base with two extra squadrons, which should make it a bit easier to fight off the Soviets and their allies.

As ...

Re: Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

I'll tweak the point values a bit and then upload version 2.

I'm also going to add an extra airfield with more fighter squadrons to even the odds a bit. Of course, you have to be careful not to lose those aircraft.

Re: Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

I've taken a crack at this, despite the difficulty/complexity rating. I normally steer clear of scenarios with ratings that high, but I normally try your betas so I took a dive.

After the first wave of attacks settled down, it was a massively bloody battle. Both sides took heavy losses.

The ...

Defending Northern Turkey, 1968 -- new beta for testing

My newest beta...

It's 1968 and the Soviets have opened the war with an attack on northern Turkey. Their goal is to cripple Turkish air power in the Black Sea region in advance of a land invasion. Their goal appears to be to seize control of the Turkish Straits (they are also trying to seize parts ...

Information about Turkish air force

Friends,

I'm working on a new 1968 scenario and I'm looking for information on the Turkish air force, especially during the 1960s. I'm trying to find out which squadrons (and aircraft) were based at specific air bases, if such information is available. Any other information about the Turkish air ...

Re: Import/Export Facilities DB: Get them here

I think I did this right...

I'm working on a Cold War scenario that involves Turkey and had to build four air bases/airports. I figured I might as well share them.

I used a combination of the topographic map view in Command and Google maps to figure out where things like hangers, runways, etc ...

Question about submarine operation

Is there a way to assign a submarine to a mission doctrine that will have it normally operate at shallow or some other depth, but make it automatically pop up every once in a while (say every two hours or every four hours) to periscope depth to get more information on nearby surface contacts and/or ...

Re: Aegean Hunting Party, 1968 - new beta for testing

That makes sense. Thank you.

It's possible those aquired in the 40s were lend lease aircraft that were supposed to be destroyed if not returned post war. The definition of "destroyed" was applied very loosely in many cases. As was the case for India's reactivated B-24s.

See Part III: India ...

Re: Aegean Hunting Party, 1968 - new beta for testing

Got it. Good catch. I was surprised when SIPRI said they only got one; must be that they got them right after World War II. They're even in the database; don't know how I missed them. Adding binoculars was easy, although you have to do it while they're in the air and then land them.

[later edit ...

Re: Aegean Hunting Party, 1968 - new beta for testing

I suggested the C-47 over a jet powered aircraft due to better loiter time for ASW search purposes. It can loiter at lower altitudes for a significant amount of time while also being capable of flying high enough to avoid the frigate's AA guns

As for the MiG threat, well that's what we have the ...

Re: Aegean Hunting Party, 1968 - new beta for testing

Thanks for the feedback.

Good idea about some recon aircraft; I added a couple of RF-84s; it should be adequate for the role.
