RE: Too much surrendering and ammo loss?

<r> Re hetzers resupply:<br/>
I have a save shortly after resupply is on the way. Will that work or does it need to be at the time of request?<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
Re routing:<br/>
Yes, units in CotA ping-ponged too much, but I don't think the ability to rout multiple times should've been removed ...

RE: Too much surrendering and ammo loss?

<r> Now about the ammo thing I mentioned...<br/>
<br/>
This is a pretty clear-cut example. On "nobody comes back" I ordered a German inf batallion to assault an American rifle platoon in the woods, with two of the companies attacking from both flanks (something the batallion AI should think of ...

RE: Too much surrendering and ammo loss?

<r> Examples 1 & 4: Agreed. But...<br/>
Lemme restate that my problem with surrendering isn't so much about distance. It's that units are just too vulnerable to surrendering in rout recovery. One of the examples in my last post shows how I exploited this to make a Sherman company surrender long ...

Here are a bunch of weird things that happened. I can send saves for any of these on request:<br/>

RE: In Situ

<r> That's kind of beside the point. Micromanaging every company is gamey in this game where you're supposed to let subordinates do their thing.<br/>
<br/>
The problem is that the AI should be defending well in the first place. I mentioned this about CotA <LINK link="http://www.matrixgames.com ...

RE: Too much surrendering and ammo loss?

<t> That div HQ was dug in the same spot, never engaged, and set to normal rest setting. They recovered most fatigue overnight with a rest order though.<br/>
<br/>
About the long-range surrender, I agree that's probably what happened there. I don't have a save of that instance, but will send any ...

<r> Also, the deal with fatigue? According to the manual:<br/>

<QUOTE><s>
</s>Whenever units are stationary and either resting, defending or waiting, their fatigue will reduce. Resting troops recover fastest.<e>
</e></QUOTE>

Too much surrendering and ammo loss?

<r> Finally got around to buying the game. It's great, but there are a couple things bugging me so far.<br/>
<br/>
Ping pong units in CotA were annoying. It was so hard to close in or do any damage to the enemy with direct fire because retreats were too common and retreating/routing enemies would ...

<t> I've just been trying the demo. Love it so far. But the changes in routing behavior since CotA seem to have a drawback.<br/>
<br/>
I had a sherman company attacking some hopeless German flak unit near Lommsweiler. While they couldn't do jack to the Shermans, a German airstrike saved them. This ...

RE: Tips For Managing Overcrowded Units?

~ key makes icons smaller, arrow keys navigate the unit structure of command, and clicking the same spot selects other units there.

When I get reinforcements I usually just send the whole unit, so the 2 key suffices, especially since reinforcements usually have no orders delay.

RE: Major concern: Armor

<t> I had that problem in Crete as well. The Matilda in Iraklion had no fuel and I had an infantry co right on it, but they couldn't do anything to it.<br/>
<br/>
Airstrikes did nothing either. From what I gather in flight sims, it's reasonable to expect on average a couple stuka strikes (500 kg ...

RE: building bridges

<t> I told the German engineer battalion in Thermopylae to build a bridge, but they kept repositioning over the crossing point without building anything. Ordering just the bridge coy and one engineer coy worked. There might be a problem with using too many units, or maybe a battalion HQ or something ...

RE: Wishlist (cont'd)

 • Moving a rest order location shouldn't automatically set formation to 'unspecified'. I keep accidentally moving battalions when they need sleep.

edit: wow, I didn't even notice the BFTB forum until now.

RE: Wishlist (cont'd)

<t> Hmmm. I was under the impression that low aggro is good for ambushes, but turns out none of the references mention that. Anyway I was suggesting that aggro affect not only direct fire, but also calling for artillery. Because if I have an ambush set up, I don't want the enemy to bunker down or ...
