Re: quiescent hex-based PC wargame scene

Now that grabs my attention. I know you can't say much but can you at least say what scale it will be (tactical, operational, or strategic)? I would love to see a series of hex-and-counter,operational-scale ACW games.

We are working on a new ACW hex-based game. Likely to take 2 years to ...

Re: Kickstarter Avalon Hill's War and Peace for the PC

That's great news! To stretch the value of their work they could, with modification, apply the system to other wars (incl. ACW).

toaw III price?

I swear I saw the Matrix download of TOAW 3 for $25 a few weeks ago, and now it is back up to $40. Was that a temporary price reduction?

Turkey surrender

How is Turkey's territory carved up if they surrender to the Entente during the game?

RE: Assault Troops lessons learned

<r> Exactly. Both are an unaffordable luxury, IMO. It is too bad that ahistorical resource constraints keep one from indulging in much of the flavor that the game offers.<br/>

RE: Serbia never surrendering?

Hjaco,
My problem is I am certain I did indeed spend an HQ point in the taking of all the city hexes. Something extraordinary must have happened.

Serbia never surrendering?

<t> In my single player game as the Central Powers I seemingly conquered Serbia in 1914 (all country hexes are in my control and all their units disappeared) yet by late 1916 it has not surrendered. This is the first time I've played with the game set at Entente advantage. I wonder if that has ...

RE: So what is the Next Project?

I agree. I don't like any of the recent area movement ACW strategic level games. There is definitely room in my book for a new hex based one.

Britain surrendering

<t> Playing with the latest patch... I've finished two games as the Central Powers and the British have surrendered in both, once in 1917 and one in 1916. Both were rather inexplicable as I've never used U-boats to any great effect (and never built a single one), and I go on the defensive in the ...

RE: Russian strength

So even with the latest v1.34, the U-boats remain ineffective (that seems to be a common finding with earlier versions when I looked through old posts here)?

RE: Russian strength

Thanks, Will. I didn't realize until reading through old posts that transfering resources from the OE to Germany was the way to go. I wonder if that has any historical basis, although it is obviously the thing to do within the game system.

AI

I don't think I've ever had as much fun in a game played vs. the AI as I've had with GoA. British passivity on the Middle East front is the only oddity I noted in a game lasting into 1917, but that could have been random.

Russian strength

<t> With the new update 1.34, I am just now getting back into GoA. I've started a couple games as the Central Powers and am very impressed with Frank's AI. The game is a world different from when I was playtesting the beta versions! My concern is with Russia's strength and Germany's relative ...
