This is what ultimately weakens Germany in game far more than the blockade. Being shackled to a corpse.


Perhaps Germany should have thought about that before issuing a "blank cheque" in July 1914 in support of their ally!

I never saw anyone doing it and have done it myself only once long ago, so I am wondering if it can be a reasonable strategy against an experienced opponent. Has anyone ever tried it? What are your thoughts on it?


Don't do it, you lose a lot of NM, like a lot. ~20% of total NM park as Austria ...

Hi everyone, i was or rather still am one of the many players.

I won my first round in Autumn 1916, my gallant opponent resigned. By then Paris, Verdun, Toul, Nancy, Belfort had fallen, French morale was around ~5%, Russia had undergone Revolution but was around 20-25%.

Is Austria made far too weak in the latest Iteration?
2 games, in both Austria hit 0 NM and collapsed in April 1917, nearly 18 months before actual collapse.
In both games, Germany is above 50%, Ottomans ~25% or something.
Belgium, Serbia, Monte are dead and Romania has lost the capital and ...

Austria gets 2 full-strength militia units (detachments) on Czernowitz and Kolomea instead of their 2 half strength starting detachments.

I personally do not think cavalry is good to use in 1918 scenario. The German level 2 corps are your key strength, when attached to good HQs and in normal supply, they can deliver devastating attacks and bleed the English and French.

Since I started this thread way back in 2022, I have learned that the Ottomans placed two corps under German command (General Mackensen) to support the invasion of Romania from Bulgaria. Hence the correct placement of these two corps in the 1917 scenario. It still does not get around the HQ ...

I propose a minor bump for France.
A detachment with full strength (representing Militia) in Lilee
In return, the Paris garrison won't mobilise for multi-player.
This will slightly delay Schlieffen.

Hi Bill - makes sense historically. Of course in the game, those two Ottoman units can not be commanded by the nearest German and AH generals. My impression is that the Ottoman army was more open to importing German generals or putting some of their units under German command than their status ...

1. I launched an all out Schlieffen, force marching and all that and have taken upto Amiens and surrounded Verdun (it still stands)
2. UK decides to get it's Indian, Canadian and Anzac troops to France/UK instead of Egypt etc.
