RE: What RCS/etc is the radar range circle based on?

<t> Yea, try a radar on top of a mountain an a 1m2 helicopter flying at max altitude. I bet anything semi-modern will detect it.<br/>
<br/>
Helicopters also have this issue where the rotor advances and retreats at 300+kts or something which as you might imagine creates quite the doppler phenomenon ...

RE: What RCS/etc is the radar range circle based on?

Ok, so Sharana says the max range is usually set at whatever has an 80% chance of detecting a 1m2 RCS target. So this must be the cutoff point for not wanting to waste any more time waiting on an echo and thus slowing down the sweep etc.

RE: What RCS/etc is the radar range circle based on?

<t> Ok, but does this mean that the range is just hard coded from a specification like "this radar will absolutely never detect anything beyond 50nmi. But within that range the reflected power formula will be used to determine detection." And the range circle is just based on a hard "max range" spec ...

What RCS/etc is the radar range circle based on?

<t> Is the range circle for radar based on a particular radar cross section value like 1m2/0dBms?<br/>
<br/>
By that I mean, assuming ideal conditions and no jamming, should a radar with a given range circle be able to detect a target with an RCS of some minimum like 1m3 once it enters the circle ...

RE: UnitY() is nil inside of a Target Detected event

<t> Ok, but in this case there's a "spy" who spots an aircraft with eyeballs/binoculars. The aircraft didn't fire weapons or do anything to imply that an aircraft should be there. Unless I missed something it's just flying around and should either be seen or not seen by eyeballs/binoculars?<br ...

RE: Help before I send my allienware for recycling!

Yep, I also agree that it would probably be easier to temporary disable the virus detection rather than take a chance on it silently blocking a file create/write (which it sounds like it might be doing even though you added a "permit" rule).

RE: UnitY() is nil inside of a Target Detected event

Woohoo! Thanks. This will come in handy.

But I am confused as to how a "Unit is Detected" trigger could trigger if no sensor detected the unit?

RE: Lua script as attachment not working with ScenEdit_UseAttachment()

<t> There seems to be no real benefit to Lua attachements at all. So far I haven't encountered anything that can't be better managed by creating a Lua Script Action and triggering it on scenario load, etc. This is much less trouble than trying to deal with all of the attachment bundling issues ...

RE: Help before I send my allienware for recycling!

<t> My recommendation would be, reattempt the update installation without totally reinstalling and hopefully you won't see the av alert this time. Sounds like you added the rule but it blocked it on the first try. From what you describe, it sounds like everything except the exe file got installed ...

RE: Air cushion landing craft roaming far inland

I have not seen it but I haven't played a scenario with LCACs. The game might need some sort of maximum altitude for what terrain an LCAC can traverse. In any case I've made a mental note to look for the same thing when I finally encounter LCACs.

RE: What does Investigate Contacts within Weapons Range do?

<t> "Investigate Contacts Outside Patrol Area" seems to apply to anything anywhere. So for example you have a tiny patrol area somewhere with fighter planes in it on an AAW patrol, then something like an AEW plane spots a bogey way far away somewhere. The fighters will leave their tiny area and fly ...

RE: [Tool] Command Scenario Browser - CMANO Scen View

<t> Inputting things by hand, launching by hand, etc. All fine. Once lots of players are already doing something then it becomes easier for the developers to justify in business terms spending the time to add the features needed to not have to do everything by hand. It goes from someone "might" use ...
