You can back up the two settings files in the DW2/data folder, but after version upgrades they are not accepted every time a new setting is added.

The settings files are in a binary format so I guess there isn't the flexibility that would exist with an XML parser.

Power use apparently does rise exponentially with clock frequency :lol:

Just be aware of the degradation issue with the 13/14 gen Intel chips, they don't like overclocking too much.

Well that was a truly pointless interjection :D

The current ship upgrade model either follows the AI path or gives you complete freedom. Everything else including my suggested component checkmarks will lead to a lot more complications and spending of limited development time.

For now, the best way to upgrade custom designs that have any kind of special parts, is to use Copy As New instead of the Upgrade button. Combat ships need to "blockade" the station to conquer, and invasion ships shouldn't be armed except for PD. Mixing the two classes yields these questionable results.

Maybe not a complex battle simulation, just an arena for 1 v 1 ship battles. That doesn't seem like too much work... You could design and save the ships and then let them go at it :)

I think you'd have to handle planets and stations like combat targets all the time, in order to steer ships towards them. Even with some simplification due to predictable circular or elliptic orbits that's still a substantial amount of CPU work.

Stations don't move and can therefore use solar panels for all their energy needs. Reactors serve mostly as batteries and backup. Your epic horde of reactors may also be running into fuel shortages or an engine limit possibly?

Planets on top of each other happens when you use the editor to make new planets, then forget the option remains active between sessions and then click to select another planet. :roll:

This sounds good, I just go with smaller galaxies because mostly manual play becomes impossible when large 2k galaxies grow up into big galactic pizzas. AFAIK acceleration is provided by population count and generals, not sure if the former applies to the cloning facility too. So usually the AI will work towards having the homeworld as the recruitment center at the biggest world.

You can build colony ships with two colony modules too. And more fuel for state ships is really necessary in large galaxies, and also leads to less downtime from refueling trips.
