Withdrawing Air Assets-yes or no?

<t>I have been wondering whether or not to withdraw some of my B-17 squadrons. Given the very low replacement values (a good consequence for using them low level;) ) in 42. I don't know if they will return later or be replaced with squadrons of 24's for example. Does anyone have an opinion? I have ...

<t>Dgaad,<br/>
I agree completely, I do not see the effectiveness of LBA as a game buster or as unbalancing. It was the central ideal in the war plans in the Pacific. In fact I see it as an important factor that must be considered and planned for, used etc. <br/>
On a related note..<br/>

Parking a CV TF between GIli Gili and PM will rattle their cages pretty hard! I sank a total of 3BB and 2 CA's on two seperate occasions this way. BTW I had the CV TF based at Cairns.

<t>2 Operational advantages come to mind.<br/>
1. the beech next to it Durabora(sp?) has a level 6 airbase capacity (9 with oversupply)<br/>
2. Overland route to PM<br/>
<br/>
However, holding it, suppling it and building it up versus a human opponent would be extremly difficult as it can be reached ...

Carrier Air

<t>I have found as the Japanese that using the long range of your bombers to interdict supplies in conjunction with carrier raids south of the Lunga--Gili Gili line will severly hamper allied bombing. The allied bombers are effective with their larger loads (and bombs) but they use a tremendous ...

Fortresses v Zeros

<t>Another thing to remember is that while zeros were very agile fighters not only did they lack hitting power initially they were relatively fragile. 17's and 24's were flying freight trains bristleing with 50 caliber machine guns. This fire power and armor/durability difference may be seen by the ...

I agree

<r>NorthStar seems to do as I do. I set CAP at 60% to rest them and 80% when I have a supply TF bringing in supplies or feel that an air raid on the base is coming soon. On my CV TF's I set one at 60% and one at 80% and rotate percentages (I run 2 CV TF's usually 2 TF's in same hex if possible) This ...

Switch Home Base

<t>Form up the TF in Truck, set home base to Shortland and click on return to Shortland. Once they get to Shortland refuel them then set their mining destination. They will mine just fine (works every time for me as US or Japan). I am not sure if a similar tactic for fast transports will work or not ...

Undo 1 thing from 1.1

<t>I like the changes in the current patches with the exception of sub minelaying. I have been away for a while so I don't know if this has been mentioned before. But.. while I agree with the limiting of bases capable of loading mines on subs I think limiting it to Truk and Noumea only is ...

Insane Escort

NorthStar,
I too have seen these raids on both Lunga and PM 60-120 fighters escorting as few as 4 bombers:eek:
The point is not to match the escorts 1-1 it is to throw up a large unexpected resistance, you can afford the loss in planes and pilots while the Japanese can't;)

Good Point

pbear,
I forgot about the B-17s. I'm not sure but the supply runs might up their experience as well. This would be an added bonus early on when there isn't anything they can bomb from the early bases:)

Thanks

<t>Thanks Erik.<br/>
<br/>
I did have 2 CA's with similar sys damage at each port in one case. In that case Cairns seemed to repair the CA there about 1.5 times faster than Brisbane.<br/>
Currently I have CV's based there (Cairns) and they seem to be repairing faster than the CV's at Noumea as well ...

Perplexed

Erik,
I have posted acouple of times in different threads about Cairns being a good repair port eventhough Brisbane is 9 and Cairns 6. I have seen a couple of other people mention Cairns in this respect any idea why this occurs? Is it just the luck of the draw??

The Gods Smiled on me at last!

<r>It is early November 42 Lunga is home to 2 F4, 1 P-38, and 1 F400? squadron making the daily bombing raids on Lunga painful for the Japanese they have 2 SBD squadrons and a Marauder squadron for company. My CV's are resting up at Cairns and Noumea and I have recently transfered a Surface group ...

<t>With subs you have to form new task force with sub minelaying your mission then choose a sub in port. A message will appear for most boats saying that MK 10 mines have been loaded. There are a couple of subs that loadout MK 12 or 16 mines, these subs don't display a message when chosen but a look ...

Painful to watch

<t>System damge above 25 is painfully slow to repair; if the ship is a minor one (AP, DD etc) I send it to Pearl, however, I don't send the big boys back! To me a carrier sitting at Noumea with 28 sys dmg for 3 months is better than sitting out and arriving back at Pearl in like 130 days and then ...
